I'm not too sure how it works, i got sky in November last year, so would i have to wait until then to cancel?
I am wanting to cancel because after next month we have only one wage coming in until my partner gets a job and it just makes sense to switch to BT TV as they are our broadband provider.

Most likely you entered into a 12 month contract and thus you would be charged an early termination fee were you to cancel before the contract period is up.
However, depending on what packages were taken you may be able to downgrade to a basic package that won't cost you as much money.
Give Sky a call and explain the situation. They may be able to help you by putting you on one of their basic packages to cut your monthly bill.0 -
If you only got it last November. You will still be within its minimum term. This can't be cancelled with early termination charges you do have to see out the entire contract. So the earliest date that can be cancelled is 31 days before your contract ends. In the meantime you could always give them a call and see if there's anything you can take off the package to save some moneyNever regret anything that made you smile

Of course it can be cancelled with Early Termination of Contract (ETC) fees! That's the whole point of them!chunkymonkey2144 wrote: »This can't be cancelled with early termination charges
The problem is that the ETC is likely to be nearly the equivalent of paying for the subscription up until next November.
Post # 2 had the most sensible advice to contact Sky and explain that the Op's financial situation has worsened.0 -
Thanks guys, i will give them a ring and explain my situation, hopefully we can come to some sort of agreement.0

Has anybody used this new virgin deal as a negotiator with Sky. They are offering a 10 month season ticket to all Sky Sports channels which they say is a 40% saving. A £150 one off charge applies though. Having put in a request to cancel my sky tv the best I can get then down is to £56.25 per month including broadband and phone is that good?.0

This is correct for phone and broadband. For t.v the contract stands if you phone them. That's what they will tell you that you have to see out the contractNever regret anything that made you smile

The Sky website seems to suggest otherwise.

If the OP ends up talking to someone who insists they can't cancel, they can direct them to the page above.0 -
Anyone can cancel any Sky service during the minimum term. The only problem is that the ETC will cost the same or almost the same as seeing out the entire contract. Paying an ETC should only be used as a cancellation , therefore, by people leaving to live elsewhere. If the OP ends up talking to someone who insists they can't cancel, they can direct them to the page above.
Sky will never encourage a cancellation, the OP will have to insist.0 -

This is where the customer may run in to difficulties, as Sky amended the early termination aspect of the tv terms & conditions several months ago and removed a passage that referred to the customer ending the contract early.
The changes made appear to have brought the t&c’s in to line with what was already happening in practice- that some agents were declining early termination and instead advising that the customer could only reduce their subscription to the lowest priced package. Thus, if Sky refused to process an early termination the only means of the customer achieving it was by breaching the terms & conditions- for example, by cancelling their payment instruction- which would then trigger Sky to impose the early termination charge.
The change to the t&c’s appears to have eliminated a gracious early exit from tv contracts, unless Sky agree, and leave the customer instead to mull the consequences of actively breaching a contract.0
