Is the garage legally allowed to do this?

Depends how the question was phrased. Will it tow a caravan. Yes it will.
Tow anything can mean lots of things, Caravan, trailer etc etc upto the vehicles maximum towing weight.
Will it tow my caravan. Unless he knows the exact spec of your caravan then they wont know that.
A simple look at the V5C before buying would have given your parents the figures they need to ensure it matches their needs.
What other vehicles do they have they may suit their needs? A swap for something slightly cheaper? Or a figure between what they want what your willing to pay?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Looks pretty much as though they were poorly advised.
Vehicle should be reasonably fit to fulfill the purpose for which it was intended.
Which is why i always told the dealer i was using a car to do PH/Courier work back in the early 90's.
If it wasn't up to doing 1000/1500 miles a week then they shouldn't have sold it to me.
In the same situation i suspect i would have checked the sales brochure and checked the towing capacity.0 -
I am very surprised that somebody that tows a caravan has fallen into this trap
and for the salesman to say it will tow anything is just crazy
if you own a caravan then you would or should know the the car’s kerbweight, the car’s towing limit, the car’s Gross Train Weight and the caravan’s Maximum Technically Permissible Laden Mass
you should do your home work and look for a car that is a good match for your van, the salesman was in the wrong saying it will tow anything but your parents should take some of the blame as well for not checking the four items given above and looking for a car that keeps you within the 85% rule0 -
Or you just look it up on Google...
Will it tow "a caravan"? Yes, it will. It will tow also a box trailer, a trailer tent, a car transporter trailer, a livestock trailer - any type of trailer, within the legal restrictions placed by the maximum weights of course...
Will it tow _THAT_ caravan? That's another question, and depends entirely on the weights. And, unless they gave the salesman the weights for THEIR caravan, he cannot say for sure.
Did the salesman say something that wasn't entirely true? At the end of the day, it's one person's word against another, isn't it...?0 -
What is the car in question?0

Why would anyone ask that of a salesman and expect an honest answer?
Salesmen, they don't know sh*t..... They talk a lot and that's ALL they do.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
