What to ask when haggling over price

So, if I (as a punter) were to ask you if there was any room for negotiation, what would you reply?
Personally, i'd be saying something like 'i've the car priced keenly already, but if i check my figures i might be able to move a little on the price, if you're in a position to buy today"
Or some variation along those lines.0 -

Because it doesn't achieve anything - in fact it's detrimental
The seller may well be able take £2000 off the price but he has now set your expectation that you will only get a few ££s off0 -

This is where the car saleperson has got it wrong.
You should sell the benefits, find out the persons opinion on the product you are selling and then shut up, let the buyer ask the questions and not interrupt them. If they want to haggle on a price, then show them something more in the price range. They will invariably find the extra money to buy the first car they liked.
Has worked well enough for me for 26 years.0 -
rustyboy1 is pretty much on the money. If the car is properly up for sale and the salesman makes sure with a few decent questions the car is right for the buyer and the first question is about chipping the price, the salesman moves on to something more suitable for the customers pocket. Amazing how often customers want to show off how they can lash the cash if their spending power is questioned.0
