Getting to Glasgow airport

We're flying from Glasgow next Friday and wondering how the games will affect the traffic getting there? We're only coming from Stirling but I've experienced bad traffic before while getting to a flight and just don't need the stress!
I've tried doing a few searches but there seems to be nothing to help! How much longer should we leave or can anyone suggest a better route than the direct one?!!

it looks like events start in earnest on Thursday24th - so on Thursday I'd check your route on google and see how long its taking that day, at the time you'd normally be setting off.

Good idea, thanks. Was hoping that at least the airport site would give some info but was out of luck there!

I doubt it'll be too bad, all the sports that day are in north Central venues (none south of the clyde) motorway might be a bit busier but if you're heading the sensible way it shouldn't be too bad. (Down the M73 to the M74/M8 at Kinning Park) As it's motorway you should manage to avoid the people heading into the city centre - just leave a little extra time (an hour to be safe) worst that'll happen is you'll have time to chill before your flight!

If you're on the train it'll be worse & I'd leave 2hrs earlier & be prepared to get the heid down and barge through.

Hmmm was wondering the same. M8 has loads of warnings. I will just leave a lot earlier.

When you say google it, does google change with road closures?

i have google as my search engine, so when I, for example, put in my postcode "ng* *** to luton airport", I get a little map on the hits which gives me the normal travelling time, and the current travelling time.

Keep an eye on Traffic Scotland. I would think they will keep up to date with any traffic flow problems.

My friend lives in Glasgow and they started putting up road closures more than a week before the games were due to start. Maybe call the Glasgow Tourist Board.

Thanks everyone. I've just got a bit of OCD as far as planning goes and leaving it till the day before is against the usual for me;)
Had thought about staying in an airport hotel the night before until I saw that the holiday inn was nearly £300:eek:
Will keep an eye on traffic Scotland this week and see what problems, if any, arise

Not sure what time your flight is...but could you just head there really early, and go somewhere beforehand if you have a spare hour or so? Like Braehead, or go for lunch somewhere? This is assuming you are driving. At least when you get to Braehead, you'll be away from the venues (I think....check they're not using Braehead Arena though!).

Flights at half 12, so aim to be there for half 9 and get breakfast/shop:D Not really going to be much opportunity to go anywhere else that's open!
