Fit payments
I have been receiving "fit" payments for two years. At the start SSE would process the fit reads and make the payments within a month.
More recently it regressed to "within 65 days" and now it is "within 65 working days".
Telephone calls yield a variety of "fob offs". It is difficult to believe that the number of readings and payments has more than doubled in the last 12 months; but quite easy to adopt the cynical view that the sums paid out are substantial enough to mean that the company's cash flow benefits from an extra month's delay. Will this worsen as time goes by?
As SSE are also my supplier for both gas and electricity, it would seem perfectly reasonable to offset what I need to pay them, against what they owe me.
Are other people being similarly treated by one of the big 6?
How effective has complaining been if you have chosen to make a fuss?
Thanks for replies,
CL

I too would like this option. I'd happily let them credit my FIT payments to my supply account and never have to worry about a utility bill again!
I am with EON for FIT and they are very prompt payers.0 -
You are free to move your FIT's to whichever company you wish; all the Big Six can be used, plus many smaller providers who are compulsorily registered for FIT's admin. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Anybody actually tried to do this? I am with EDF for FITs and in June I gave them a meter reading on a Sunday and the BACs notification was e-mailed to me at 4pm the following day. I am not sure that I would want to go through the hassle of changing without understanding the process of agreeing a start/finish FIT meter reading figure. Energy companies have more than enough problems agreeing energy switch meter readings. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. It should be no more tricky than agreeing a final read when doing a normal switch. When I left Ecotricity for EDF, a meter reader was sent specifically to verify my generation meter reading.
When I went from EDF to OVO, I left my FITs with EDF and they have never failed to pay within 30 days.
I do not think that they are allowed to operate FITs as a credit to your main account: the two have to be kept separate. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

I'm with SSE and still no payment from reading given on 17th June. How easy do you think it would be to change FiT provider, perhaps to EON as they appear to be prompt payers? I think it's very poor having to wait 8 weeks...:mad:0

Worth a read if you are thinking of choosing a new FIT provider:

We have just received our payment from EON for the last quarter and they have now amended the prices for calculating the payment to 2 decimal points rather than one i.e.
units generated price now 48.07p previously 48.1p
units exported price now 3.39p previously 3.4p
Has anyone else noticed this difference? And does anyone who is with a different supplier have their prices shown to 2 decimal points?
There is only a small reduction in the actual amount we will receive but total up all the FIT payments they make and yet another bit of profit to the company.
Their reply to our question on this was
"We now display the rates to two decimal places whereas before we rounded them to one. So whilst we have changed the way we display them on your statement, the rates themselves have not changed."0 -

EON won't make anything out of this. They are paying the exact rates that the Government set for this year, rather than rounding up, which may have lost them money previously.
Let's face it. The FIT rates are very generous for us early investors - are you really going to lose sleep over 0.03p per kWh?! A passing cloud every day can cost you a lot more!0 -

Nice thought Andy but, at the moment, we don't offer the option of paying energy bills with FIT payments.
I've just spoken with our FIT guys and there aren't currently plans to offer this option. I will, though, feed this back. We've made a number of changes in recent times to our FIT operation and, if demand for this service grows, could happen in the future.
It took quite a while before FIT became available on our website but we made it in the end. Have you seen this facility Andy?
If you register your FIT account number with the same password and email address as your electricity account, you'll go through to an 'Account Selector' screen.
From here, there's a drop down box where you can choose to view either your FIT or electricity account.
Among other things, you'll be able to see the payments you've made, the next payment date and generation history. You can also send us your FIT meter readings this way.
Thanks for the feedback. This sort of stuff's always useful.
