So summarising - theres either a massive conspiracy out there whereby petrol companies manipulate at their will how much fuel we actually get for our money, and the governing bodies are in on this too
OR
The O/P has a dodgy fuel gauge?
Probably without having to start a thread on a forum and make myself look a bit dim, i would have opted for the second option.0 -
There haven't been any Total garages in the UK for a couple of years - they pulled out of the UK fuel retail market and sold all their sites to other brands.
So maybe it was all a dream!
I must be dreaming as well, as I drive past one a mile from my house on the way to work every day.0 -

Where did you get that from?
There's a Total "garage" no more than two miles from my house and I use it fairly regularly!:)0 -

I promise you there aren't any Totals left, they've all been rebranded as something else. Are you sure it didn't become a Texaco (for example) and you didn't notice the change because the colour scheme is similar?0 -

If it is still a Total today, the only possibility I can think of is that it's now independently owned but the new owners have left the old signage up, perhaps to trade off the reputation of the brand. But the stuff in the pumps can't be Total as their forecourt fuel supply business no longer exists in the UK.0 -

Total are still selling fuel in the UK - in huge quantities - just not to the general public directly.
They supply businesses, independant garages, and airlines/airports - perhaps a few supermarkets too.

All those who are saying "gauges are rubbish" - why don't you rip yours out and go without if they're that bad.0

What's the point in your comment? The OP is asking for our opinion. Most car gauges are unreliable, doesn't mean we don't use them. You woken up with a hangover?0 -

As has been said, whats the point of that comment??
Its a fuel "gauge" - ie, it helps you gauge how much fuel you have left in your tank.
You dont generally need to know that down to the last litre so the accuracy level doesnt need to be perfect.0
