OS Daily Saturday 19th July 2014
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Very overcast, with nasty black clouds, very humid and I can hear thunder in the distance but nothing here yet, and dry underfoot.
Yesterday was a lovely day – very warm and sunny with a good breeze, it didn’t get as hot here as forecast.
Will water plants and greenhouse at a more reasonable hour, once I’ve had a shower and got dressed.
DH and DS1 up and getting ready to go to work stupid early.
Dinner last night was HM quiche, stuffed peppers, new potatoes and salad. Ice cream for dessert.
Got the food shopping done and when I got home and was carrying the shopping in from the car, it started to rain, but not enough or heavy enough to do any good, then it brightened up and was sunny and warm for the rest of the day.
Had my nails done yesterday afternoon, the girls in the salon were so hot, bless them but luckily the salon doesn’t face the sun so the sun doesn’t shine in through the big front glass window – it’d be unbearable if it did.
Today I will just potter along – I’ll do some baking/cooking this morning before it gets too hot – my kitchen doesn’t get the sun until late in the afternoon. Will make some treats so there’s something in the tins for next week – DS2 finished school for the summer yesterday, so at least everything can be a bit more relaxed.
Take care in the sun and warm weather, remember the sunscreen x
Keep safe and well x

Morning all,
Well another disturbed night, as I am sure many people had. Lots of thunder and lightening again and heavy rain, and to be honest not much cooler either.
Not a lot planned for today, I should do some baking but it is too hot for that so just a day of pottering I think. My roots are in dire need of touching up so will do that as well:) Talk about high maintenance:)
Hugs to all poorlies and I hope you start to feel well soon. Molly how are you?
Have a good Saturday everyone.

Hello Candlestick and All,
Struggling with the heat and have been feeling very sleepy. We badly need some rain to lighten the atmosphere.
Dad now settled in a care home and they seem very kind. I think that Im suffering from grief so I am trying to be kind to myself.
No OS to report - but i will be back after my operation on the 11th August. Thanks for thinking of me xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Molly good to hear from you.
Pleased your Dad is settled, and you are quite right you need to be kind to yourself, he will be well looked after and you will be able to concentrate on getting yourself well again.
Very best wishes for your next operation and hopefully that will sort the problem once and for all.
Hugs

Morning everyone.
Just being lazy here, woken at about 5.30am by the birds. Think there's still a nest in the eaves above the bedroom window cos there's been chirping and sqwaking for two hours now. However, I'm still lying in bed reading.
Threatened rain didn't arrive yesterday 😄 and it's fairly bright today already. Last night I wandered around the garden until about 10.45 just picking up bits of twigs, rearranging bird feeders and looking at how the plants are doing. Really enjoyed it.
Today? Little bit if of food shopping I think, not much as we are only here at weekends just now. Hanging pictures still on the agenda.
Hope everyone had a lovely weekend.0 -
Morning all :hello: - After yesterday's stifling heat, the cool air of this morning feels quite refreshing.
home-made of course
- for all with birthdays today.
for all who need/want some.
........... Dad now settled in a care home and they seem very kind. I think that Im suffering from grief so I am trying to be kind to myself .............
Please do be careful of your own health - it's so easy to neglect yourself while trying to care for others.
We're trying to get our Mum settled into some kind of supervised accommodation - but my sister has run herself, and her husband, into the ground looking after Mum for 20yrs. Mum has spent a total of 8wks in hospital since the beginning of May ............ with a short break in Interim-Care. We would prefer to see her go into Residential Care, but SW's etc think - only 'think', mind you - she would manage in Sheltered Accommodation. Mum is 84 / has never lived alone in her life / has had a few falls recently / has impaired mobility / has failing memory / can't cook & clean / is rubbish at money management.
We're forecast for heavy downpours, which is a bit of a shame as DS1 was going to visit with a cordless strimmer to tackle the parts of my garden that my own mower and strimmer won't reach.
Plans for today include:- Much depends on the weather today. IF the rain isn't as bad as forecast, I need to see if DS1 is still visiting. If he's NOT visiting, then I'll try to get out there and tackle some of it myself. There's privets that need a bit of a trim and the Garden Waste is due to be collected on Monday.
- IF the rain is really bad, then it gives me an excuse NOT to get into the garden - so could do with a 'Living Room sort-out'. I've had so much coming/going/dumping/dropping recently, that I'm ashamed if we get unexpected visitors
.
- Still not managed to fix the sleeves on my favourite blouse - so really should make an extra effort to do those for next week's Afternoon Tea Outing.
- Have got dgd2 for an overnighter on Sunday evening, so need to sort-out the spare bed to make in 'habitable' for her
.
- ooooh good job that I'm thinking ahead, need to get some [STRIKE]chicken portions [/STRIKE] Belly Pork Slices - cos I can't find the chicken :rotfl: - out of freezer for tonight. We'll have them with Salad and OH can have a [STRIKE]jacket spud[/STRIKE] - cos the spuds are too 'sprouty' for jackets
- Onion Rings with his as well. Think I'll mix up some kind of marinade to soak them in while they're defrosting - soy sauce/honey/all-purpose seasoning/crushed garlic/olive oil.
- No shopping needed - so I can declare a NSD :j.
Right then, onwards and upwards .................
Hope everybody has a good day of OSing and that all your plans work out well for you.
cheers and speak later - Lilyplonk xx0 - Much depends on the weather today. IF the rain isn't as bad as forecast, I need to see if DS1 is still visiting. Morning :hello:
Molly I'm glad your dad's settled. Take it easy xx
I slept through the storm on thursday night, bit annoyed about that, lol. Last night more than made up for it. Yesterday afternoon was horrible, sooo muggy. I'm not sure how widespread the storm was last night, but it was amazing here. I'd be surprised if anyone got any sleep. Torrential rain, the thunder boomed all night and the lightning was something else. The house shook at one point.
The garden was very dry yesterday so we gave it a good watering. That was a waste of timeWe've picked and frozen the last of the broad beans, all the plants have been pulled up. I'll chop them up a bit and add them to the compost bin. The ground has been weeded and raked.
It's still raining now (lightly) so no gardening today. Our window man is supposed to be coming to replace a faulty unit and alter the gutter above one of the bedroom windows, I'll be completely understanding if he calls to say he can't make it
I'm feeling a bit rubbish today. A pampering shower with lotions and potions should help sort me out.

Morning all,
Oh my goodness what a thunderstorm we had, lighting up the whole bedroom. I've never heard anything like it. It's very wet today and rain forecast all day. Hubby plans to watch the golf.
I think I'm going to go through my clothes. I've lost a stone and a half now. Quite a few things are too big. And I have a bag of smaller stuff which I can probably get into:T
Food wise it will be something easy, maybe a SW curry. My ds2 and his gf are here for lunch tomorrow so I shall do roast pork, roast potatoes and veggies, all of which I can have:D
I'm also planning to grow my hair. I had it cut very short and it's so easy but not very versatile. It does grow like grass so we shall see how long before I get fed up.
My brother and his family arrived safely back in Australia, it was so worrying as they were in flight when the Malaysian plane came down. My thoughts and prayers are with all those involved.
Talking of parents, I mentioned my mum and dad want to move closer. There might be a chance of a chalet home, right by a local beauty spot in an absolutely stunning location and what looks like a really nice little community. It would be perfect for them. Fingers crossed it works out.
Right eggs bacon and coffee this morning. Have a good day xxStarted Self Managed DMP 10th May 2017.

⚡️☔️
Had a lovely day in Scarborough on Thursday , it was hot , blue sky, just perfect , we went on an hours boat trip which ended up being 2 hours , we thought we had got on the wrong boat lol but it was fantastic . Had a paddle in the sea and of course fish and chips :T caught the sun a bit too
Some cleaning on the agenda for today , all the upstairs but no point doing the beds until it stops raining . I need to start cleaning the insides of the kitchen cupboards too , it's a job I hate but must be done .
Hope everyone has a lovely day (((hugs))) to all who need0 -
Morning all
It was a glorious day here yesterday till 7:30 last night and then all of a sudden it went dull and the clouds rolled in, the wind was howling then came the rain and thunder, which lasted all through the night, got up this morning and its damp but still very warm, as I am typing the thunder and rain has just started again.
So a day indoor for us, I shall be cracking on with the housework shortly then I'll spend the rest of the day watching tv and finishing sewing a few bits I've made over the last few days and doing next weeks meal plans....so a nice easy day for us
Dinner tonight is beef curry & rice we was meant to be having beef steaks last night but DH didn't get in till late so I just had a sandwich for tea.
Hope you all have a lovely weekend... xG.C July £21.09/£1000
