Hyundai Santa Fe??

Hi

We have been looking at the Hyundai Santa Fe auto and was wondering if anyone has one and what their opinions are of it?? We have four kids, a dog and need a car to off road as we regularly tow a boat onto a beach.

Thanks

Sue

Because they don't hold their value very well, I would recommend you not to buy one brand new, but instead search for one that is a year or two old. You'll save buckets load of cash, and any niggles will have been sorted out by then.

They're excellent vehicles, very reliable and well built. I don't know whether they would be so good of road - they're more a "soft roader". Instead why not look at the Kia Sorento which has won "towing car of the year" a couple of times in some of the 4x4 mags. It has a sturdy body-on-frame construction, has higher ground clearance and more powerful diesel engines which makes it better at towing.

Don't know about towing stuff, but as a general all rounder I'd give it a thumbs up :) We got one as a compromise (I wanted a landrover - he wanted to keep his V6 coupe...) and I think we'll keep it till it dies of old age :) We got it second hand, I'd never buy brand new! But that goes for all cars :)
Hyundai also has a 5 year warrenty and it's very good. I am taking it you're going for the new Santa Fe which I think has more seats in one of the versions than the other one? Otherwise I'd be struggling to see how you can fit 4 kids, 2 adults and a dog in there... I can squeeze 4 passengers in ours and the dog - but it would leave little luggage room (guess you could stash it in the boat tho lol)
As a car it's great, if it's the right car for your needs? Only you can tell if it's gonna be big enough :)

    Thanks for all your replies!

We are looking at the newest santa fe as it has a seven seater option. We did look at the Kia Sorento but it is only a five seater. DH is set on a brand new one, but I agree that a 12 month old one would save us serious cash.

In true MSE spirit, tell "DH" not to let his heart rule his head. Buy a 6-12 month old "used approved" car from a Hyundai dealer and pocket the many thousands that you'll save. Depreciation hits Korean cars very harshly (though they are improving) so it would be silly to buy a brand new one.

  • The new model is still expensive but you can get a 1 year old 'new' model with 6-13K miles on the clock for £20K upwards. You will save about £5K on a new one. Have a look at the Hyundai approved-used site its easy to use with lots of options.
