DREAMS Bed Price Reduced Before Delivery

Hi there,

I recently placed an order IN STORE for a quite expensive bed. I agreed to pay over 20 months on 0% finance, paying £0 deposit.

As this bed is for our new house that we are to move into on the 31st July, I got the guy to write on the order form that "should the house purchase fall through, I can cancel the order at no charge".

It is not due for delivery until 7th Aug but I have just noticed it has been reduced by £459!

Are they obligated/likely to credit this amount to the order?

Obviously I can just go in and cancel the order saying the house sale has fallen through and then just re-order on-line or another store but I really want the bed ASAP and don't want to reset the lead time clock.

Any comments/advice?

No; not unless the house purchase falls through.

If they increased the price of the bed would you expect them to increase the price for you and how would you feel?

Actually you probably can't, they'll likely want evidence of this which naturally you won't be able to provide should you be lying.

It's unfortunate but you were happy with the price when you bought it so just look forward to your new bed.

You have no rights to cancel the order as you made the order in-store
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.
  • why not ask to see if they will offer gw and refund the difference as you have nothing to lose by asking nicely

I'd agree with this, it's certainly worth a try.

Better still, this is from their FAQ's

How can I change or cancel part of my order?
If you would like to amend your order in any way, please contact us on 0344 292 0000 or complete the contact us form to the left of this page. Please note that certain goods may be subject to a cancellation charge.

If they charge you a cancellation it will be a lot less than you are losing.

Their charge is 20% of the price so it all depends how much the bed costs.
There may also a fee due for cancelling the finance agreement if the OP is outside of the cooling off period.
For orders placed in store we can amend your order penalty free within the first 48 hours, after this time an administration fee of 20% will be charged.

I'd say that whatever the T&C's say 20% is not reasonable, but it probably wont even come down to that.

OP give them a ring and see what they say.
  • As they are under no obligation to allow a cancellation, there is no legal reason to stop them charging 20% for this.
An 80% refund is far better than no refund at all.
