nPower - CCJ on credit file for invalid debt

Options
Hi,

I'm not entirely sure if this is in the right place, forum-wise but if you could bare with me and any advice would be much appreciated.

About 3 years ago i got an electricity bill from nPower for £1200+ so i phoned them and told them it was incorrect - they agreed and considered the matter closed. I didn't even have an electricity account with nPower - i used a prepay card at my address.

I received a total of about 25 further bills/letters from nPower first just bills then demands for payment - phoned them each time and they said not to worry its an error and I wouldn't get any more letters. Also note that each time I phoned there was no record on my account of previous discussions.

Earlier this year I received a County Court Judgement demanding payment of £1500+. Naturally I was furious and contacted Wilkman Chapman (nPowers legal team) and explained the situation. After about a month of them tripping over themselves, phoning various departments they agreed I was right and again, told me not to worry they would have the Judgement removed - no apology though.

3 months later I still have the Court judgement on my credit file. I phoned Wilkman Chapman again and they told me the EXACT same thing (only 3 months later) that they would contact the court etc

Theres no movement on this - its impossible to communicate effectively with npower or their legal team - I might as well ask my 2 year old son to sort it out for me.

What can I do??

I am considering legal action against npower but first I just want to get the court judgement removed from my credit file. I applied for a loan recently and was refused due to a poor credit score - so i investigated and there it was - county court judgement - npower.

Advice please!!

Thanks in advance.

Then go to a solicitor. These incompetent gits have got away with this sort of stuff for far too long. And the CRAs should be answerable as well. They should stop taking data from nPower because it just can't be trusted. Will they stop doing so? Yes, when hell freezes over.

Thanks - but do i have grounds to take legal action? I think after 3 years of suffering npowers incompetence and the current problems its causing I should get some sort of compensation.

Not to mention there should be some sort of consequence for treating 'customers' this way.

Yes. There are legal precedents now, especially regarding malicious reporting to the CRAs. Here's an example:

Have a word with a solicitor, on the £5 for half hour advice, or whatever it is now.

I would concentrate on getting the CCJ overturned first. That will remove it from your credit file which is the important thing going forward.

Then you can consider whether its worth making a legal claim for any harm it has done you while on there. That can be a long hard road and you need to prove the harm its done.

Why didn't you simply file a defence when you received the court papers?
