Please help (Experian).

I applied for a new mortgage about two weeks ago. I received a decision in principle and so to progress the full application had to send off all my documents (driving licence, utility bills, salary advices, bank statements) to the mortgage broker.

Yesterday the broker rang me up, told me there was a problem with the application and asked me about any debt I hadn't disclosed. I racked my brains and outside of the loan for the car (which I disclosed) couldn't think of anything. I rang Nationwide to find out and they basically told me it was my credit card (which I settle in full every month). They even have the bank statements showing payment of this for the last three months, they had included my current credit card as part of my debt even though it is settled on-time, every month.

I thought everything was ok and then found out Nationwide had rejected my application. The broker has now managed to get the decision moved to a higher authority within Nationwide. He rang me on the way home and asked me to get hold of my Experian credit report. I contacted Experian when I got home to get it. I went through the application to find that I had failed one of their security protocols aimed at protecting me from identity fraud and would now have to wait for a PIN number to come through the post before I can access my report. This can take up to a week!

In the meantime Nationwide Head Office will be making a decision on my mortgage on Monday. I called Nationwide who basically told me that I have £6,000 of credit card debt (I don't) and that my loan commitments are double what I disclosed! This is incorrect, I disclosed everything to them.

I have tried without success to get Experian to get me the report before Nationwide make the decision as there are items on there that are blatantly incorrect.

Can anyone offer any help with this.

Thanks.

It is two working days from when the mortgage broker challenged the decision apparently.

I wonder would it help if you sent a copy of the last credit card statement and loan statement?

If the card and loan company have reported the wrong amount to experian, they will not be able to change it without the permission of the card or loan company. Therefore of there is an error it will take however long those companies take to tell experian the correct information. Therefore whilst that is being sorted perhaps nationwide would accept up to date statements?

They might not, just something to think about.

  • Just checked it via the Noddle website and they give me 5/5!

There is nothing on there except my credit cards which they list as being settled every month.

The only loan is the car loan too. Really confused now.

That "score" means nothing in the same way as the Experian "score" also means nothing.

There is also nothing on there approaching £6k of credit card debt or loans that are double what I disclosed.

I would also question the broker who submitted the application - his job is to make sure everything is ok.
    Try Nationwide direct.

I would sue Experian for defamation of character , they are obviously passing on incorrect information to a third party.
