This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning All
Unlike me to be awake at stupid o'clock, but a combination of heat ans skin irritation got to me.:o
Candlelight we get a letter to say things are OK too, so don't worry until you have read it.
Taking DGNeice to Matalan today to look for some tops for her 12th birthday next week. She finished school yesterday as it's a training day today. Will also treat her to lunch.:D
Right, suds cream appears to be calming my worse irritation, ATM. So will try for a bit more kip.
Take care everyone. DG

Good afternoon, all!
Donny-gal, hope you're able to get some more sleep. Nothing worse than a disturbed night. Enjoy the lunch and shopping.
Today is absolutely freezing here. I've resorted to digging out my fingerless gloves to wear around the house, very Albert Steptoe.I'm just working out a menu plan for the coming week. While, theoretically, there would be enough time for me to hit the supermarket before having to pick the children up from school/daycare, I'm really glued to my email, awaiting the results of last semester's uni exams. Knowing my luck, they'll arrive while I'm on the school run. Other plans for the day are to put a herb and garlic loaf in the bread maker, to have with the lentil and bacon soup that's simmering away in the slow cooker. I might also whip the hoover around. Not so much because it needs hoovering particularly, more because the exercise might help warm me up!
Hope all to follow have a good day planned.0 -
Good Morning all, wide awake this morning owing to having an early night last night.I felt a bit tired, and didn't fancy much on t.v. so went up the wooden hill to Bedforshire at around 9.00 and had a read then dropped off.:):):) at least I had a good sleep so I must have needed it.
This morning after the school run I have the bathroom to clean, and a quick whizz around with the hoover and that's it,once the sun starts getting warm then its feet up and do nowt for me as I just get too worn out in excessive heat (must be an age thing:):))
After lunch I have my History club and we are studying film and its makers this afternoon, so that will be interesting.
Then its the weekend again. Where does the time fly to just lately, four weeks to go until our holidays:):):)
Two of my DGS break up on Tuesday, and the youngest on Wednesday. The eldest (Ben) has already finished school and is waiting for his A level results.
I quite enjoy the summer holidays with the boys as we get to go out for the odd day here and there, and they are good little lads.Looking after four boys sound a lot but they really are no trouble to me at all.
They make a list of things they would like to do and we work our way through it. We do have quite a few picnics out and I have an English Heritage card that the boys are all on. If the weather turns grotty we have a DVD afternoon and they take it in turns to watch something either on a DVD from the library (pretty reasonable price ) or if its on something on Sky movies (even cheaper:)) we have a bag of popcorn and some sweets and we are all set .
Then there are card games, and French cricket in the garden, or the standby of Monopoly. Or I can play Chess with the middle two.The eldest doesn't like chess much and Mikey (the youngest) has the attention span of a gnat. But he does like baking so we make lots of biscuits and cakes.
The holidays seem to fly by, then the last two weeks we all go away together to the Isle of Wight. This year we are off to Freshwater for a change. Before we know it, its back to school time, and uniform checking, and sewing buttons on, and sorting out things for the new school year
Mikey does his 11+ in September and Ben (the eldest ) will hopfully be off to Norwich to Uni. Then its planning for Christmas and another year will be gone .:):):)
I'm sure time goes quicker the older you get:):)
Well enough blethering ,time for a shower and some breakfast
Hope you all have a good day and<hugs> to those who are down or blue or just worried.
Don't forget the sun creme today, its going to be a belter
Cheers chums

Good morning all,
Another one up early. It seems to have been an eventful night what with heavy rain, thunder and lightening. It is certainly cooler and more comfortable now, but more storms are promised.
Popping into town this morning, need a few things from the Pound shop and then up to see DD, she doesn't want to go shopping today.
Washing is up to date but bathroom needs a wipe over and must mop the kitchen floor.
Jackie you sound as though you have a lovely time with the boys. We have always had a very close relationship with our 3 grandchildren and they are a great source of joy to us. I know I am biased but they are such lovely young people and also very kind and thoughtful as well.
Have a good day everyone, and gentle hugs for anyone not feeling up to par today.
Much love

I only managed to tick one thing off my list yesterday, it was just too hot to go outside. I watered the greenhouse and that was it.
I started a new baby blanket, it grew quickly so I had to put it away because it was making my legs overheat
My yarn order has arrived so I'm happy

Morning all,
We had a huge storm in the night thunder and lightning and heavy rain it seems blissfully cooler now but meant to be a scorcher today again, yesterday was horrible in the work kitchen we had all the doors / windows open but it did not make a huge difference we have jugs of ice cold water which we and the clients keep drinking just to try and keep hydrated.
Off out for the evening tonight a leaving do for someone at work we will eat there so its only OH to feed, he will fend for himself. DD and I will eat out, there is also a band playing so should be a good night.
Little dog got us up early this morning being ill, poor thing she has not eaten this morning which is dangerous for her due to her diabetes, OH is feeling sick too so will take the day off to look after her.
Right better get on, have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone.
I'm working from home today so had an extra hour in bed though I woke up as normal.
After doing my work I have two garden benches to oil up so that the rain doesn't do too much damage. Today is forecast to get sunny whilst there is rain looming for the weekend.
Think it'll be a hearty salad tonight as there are bits and pieces to finish off. Will get some eggs from the farmer (they have lots and lots if baby chicks of all sizes, it's so good to see them all running around on the road) and that's about it.
Still reading the Kate Brannigan series of books and got to the stage of skipping chunks of back history and the bits about her choosing clothes each day, cracking stories even so.
Hope things are good or getting better for everyone. Happy Friday.0 -
I did get back to sleep, woke up with a headache, but a coffee should sort that.

Morning all :hello: - what a horrible 'muggy night' we've had. No overnight rain - well, IF there was, then I didn't hear it - and I tossed/turned all night
. At the moment it looks as though the Heavens are going open
- even though there is another scorching hot day forecast for us, I really DO NOT enjoy hot weather
.
to all who need, or 'just feel the need', for one - especially anybody going for/waiting for test results.
Thinking about all with children/grandkids about to break up for holidays and all those poor teens awaiting Exam Results. My 16yr old dgd is nervously waiting for hers to see if she's managed to get into College for Sept/Oct -.
My plans for today include:- visit back to HB/CT Office with the form to ask for reduced payments to be allowed for my payback
.
- trip back to CS as I managed to leave my Kindle behind the counter yesterday  - don't want some eager person selling THAT for a fiver
. Luckily, I've managed to speak to the lady who's on for today and let her know that it's there, so she'll put it away safely.
- another trip to visit Mum in hospital - hoping that there's going to be some good news about her 'homelessness'. The SW's are trying to find her a temp place in Intermediary Care until her new flat becomes available for her to move into.
- need to sort out a packed lunch to take out with me - probably something to do with hummus/crispbreads and some 'home-made stewed plum fruit-corner-style yoghurt'
- tonight's evening meal is Roast Beef Salad - so will only need to be thrown onto the plates. That's just about the extent that I'll feel like doing later :rotfl:.
Had a phone call from DD, a couple of minutes ago, moaning about dgd1 (age16). She texted her mum this morning at 4.45am to say that she had gone out to meet her friend (one that she's not mentioned for a couple of months) on the bus. DD's partner said that he thought he'd heard a noise at the front door around 4.40am but thought it could have been birds outside the bedroom window. Explanation was that her friend couldn't sleep and she was going to meet her, at her house, for a chat. Methinks that 'something' is not ringing very true about this - they forget that their parents/grandparents have already pulled most scams in the book and KNOW only too well when 'lies are afoot'. I've managed to speak to her, to be told that she's on the bus heading back home again. 4mile round trip to chat/watch TV at 5.00am-7.00am in the morning - I don't think so!!!!! 'Further Interrogations' will take place when she returns home .................... and investigations are ongoing. She doesn't realise that her mum is contacting friend's mum right NOW :rotfl:.
DD is currently running around the house like the proverbial 'headless chicken' searching for a needle/cotton. dgs1 has announced that he'd 'done a PJ Proby' yesterday and the school-bus is due at 8.00am.
We've just had a downpour for the last 10minutes, but it's now stopped and the sky is clearing beautifully ................... just hoping that it doesn't get tooooooooo hotwhile I'm travelling on the bus to the hospital - the first part of the journey takes about an hour
.
Have a good day of OSing everybody - I'll check back in again sometime this evening.
by for now  - Lilyplonk xx0 - visit back to HB/CT Office with the form to ask for reduced payments to be allowed for my payback

Good morning everyone
Gosh you are all up early today .... or am I up late? Day off so spending day running between chiropractor and vet with DD and DGD's rabbits respectively. I hope I don't get muddled up!
I know I make lots of typos in my posts so I shouldn't be pointing out other people's but I did laugh at DG's treatTaking DGNeice to Matalan today to lick some tops for her 12th birthday next week.
I hope Matalan don't mind :rotfl:
Very hot and sticky here, some rain in the night but bright again now. GDD is off to Blackpool for end of school trip, I hope the storms don't start when she is at the Pleasure Beach.
Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day.

Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Light cloud here this morning, but very humid and we’ve had some rain during the night, and seems like more is on the way. Plants and greenhouse watered.
DH and DS1 up and gone to work stupid early.
Dinner last night was scampi, chips, peas for the menfolk, I had salmon, jacket potato and HG green beans. Tonight is going to be HM quiche, with stuffed roasted peppers and saute/new potatoes, and side salad.
Was productive yesterday, got the ironing done before it got too hot, then did housework, also changed all the beds, and got everything line dried.
I will be heading into town shortly, will visit the bank, then do the food shopping, I have a nail appointment this afternoon too. I will do baking/cooking tomorrow – when hopefully it will be a bit cooler, as DH and DS1 are working in the morning.
Had a letter from the Tax Credits people – and as I thought they are now saying that we’re not entitled to anything – although they did underpay us last year as our total household income dropped a bit – so there’s a “potential” payment still to come of £90 but they won’t know whether they can pay us that until they do the final income figures for 2014/2015 – what a complete shambles – at least I’m not being paid anything so they can’t claim they’ve “overpaid” me!
Have a great Friday x
Take care in the sun and warm weather, remember the sunscreen x
Keep safe and well x
