I read that Vit B5 is meant to be very good for oily skin. It can be applied to the skin and also taken internally. It is not necessary to use high doses if L-Carnitine is used which helps to lower the requirement considerably. However that is for specifically for acne treatment where oil is the cause and it is designed to reduce oil production and therefore could help with your problem.

  • I sympathise with you because I have super oily skin. As much as I love the hot weather it exacerbates shine and oiliness causing makeup to slide. I am a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant and my advice would be to make sure all products you use are oil free. You need to use a gentle cleanser that doesn't strip the oil from your skin and its essential to use a good moisturiser to hydrate your skin (oily does not equal hydrated). Other products that will help are primer, matte foundation, oil mattifier, blotters and a finishing spray. I obviously use Mary Kay products and if you'd like to see the range I have a Facebook page Sally Martin Sells Mary Kay. Hope this helps.

And micellar water after washing at night has also helped as you see just how much make up sinks into your skin that doesn't wash off.

So you use the micellar water as well as your regular cleanser?
You use it like a strong (think Clinique) toner?
I've never tried micellar water, I might try it this way.
  • If you have oily skin, you can minimise the oil, but in my experience there is no product out there that will make your skin normal or matt all day. I now love having oily skin as I look much younger for it and have not wrinkled like others of my age.

I recommend using oil blotting sheets or just plain old toilet paper during the day to blot off the oil, and use a neutral clear powder during the day to mattify as and when needed. The one I use is by RMS beauty called "Unpowder" its great for oily skin as it is colourless and wont melt like coloured powders, leaving your skin all cakey with makeup, so good for men and women as it is not detectable.

Oil free skincare also helps, but does not completely solve the problem, just makes it a little more manageable.
  • I actually tried a new product today and was really impressed with it. I bought it in Asda for £7 and its called Instant Blur Primer by nspa. It has really kept my face shine free today inspite of the fact I had to wait in a baking hot car for half an hour and later went for a 1 hour bike ride. Its not specifically aimed at oily skin or reducing shine - its supposed to smooth and perfect skin. I will definitely be buying it in future.
