help me fix my shiny face!

Does anyone have any solutions for shiny, oily skin?
A few hours after applying makeup my face gets hideously shiny :(
The hot summer weather we're having doesn't help matters, heat makes my skin even more clammy and oily so when I'm at work I often end up having to blot my face with tissues or even wash my face in the loos at lunch time. I don't have time to reapply my makeup so it's a massive pain, either I have shiny skin with makeup sliding off or I have to wash it all off anyway.

To make matters worse I also get random patches of dry, flaky skin on my face, so I don't want to use any products that will dry my skin out as such, just take the shine away and keep my makeup in place.

Are there any primers or other products I could use under my makeup to stop it ending up such a mess?
I've got a few weddings and birthday parties to go to this summer and I'm dreading how I'm going to look in the photos.

I'm 26 and always thought that by this age my I would have nice, well behaved adult skin but much to my annoyance I've still got the same skin type I had at 16, albeit slightly less spotty :o

I've never tried it but I read somewhere that Milk of Magnesia is good for reducing oil if you apply it to your skin.

I'm in the process of taking a huge daily supplement of vitamin B5 (main ingredient in Clearzine I think) and it seems to be working quite well, though I am a bit worried in case it has any long term side effects.

Also some people swear by cleaning their skin with oil, as apparently this means your skin then needs to produce less oil of its own.

Hope some of that helps! x

Milk of magnesia, is that the pink stuff you take for a stomach ache?
I never would have thought of trying that but might give it a go!
I use a face oil to moisturise with so might look in to oil cleansing as well. :)
  • Someone told me to dust corn flour over my face. I decanted it into a little pot (something like a mineral foundation pot). As it's very fine, it's great for taking shine away.

Those look really good, i've used blotting papers before but they blotted my makeup as much as the grease. Those look like they actually powder your face too though which might work better :)
  • Very expensive if they don't work well.

Give the corn flour a try first. Much cheaper and you can carry a small pot and brush with you :)

Less than a pound each is expensive? Not many people want to carry a pot and brush round with them when they can just have a little booklet of papers.

i've got some neutrogena blotting sheets that are quite old but still work brillliantly, reviews here. they don't alter your make-up & you can re-apply powder again without it looking heavy.

smashbox oil free/light primer is very good too & i also like avon magix.

a different product that i've found works very well, but is expensive so i only buy when on special offer, is Mally face defender. don't overload the sponge & dab/roll application & it's brilliant. removes all shine & makes your make-up look freshly applied again.

I have oily skin and using an oil to moisturise was not working for me at all, my makeup would have slid off by 10am and I did try using different amounts. I switched to Lush Vanishing Cream for my moisturiser, and it's been much better for my skin and I don't get as many spots either now. You can usually pick up samples from Lush, and try it yourself at home before buying a big pot.

Also, what powder and foundation are you using? These might not be helping.

I find the Boots 17 Miracle Matte powder keeps me shine free for hours, and I only use oil free foundations.

Also, using anything foaming or with microbeads on my face makes the oil worse so I use Garnier face wash/mask 2 in 1 which has a sort of clay like texture.

And micellar water after washing at night has also helped as you see just how much make up sinks into your skin that doesn't wash off.
