I did used to use that as moisturizer at night but found that it actually mad my skin worse as its residue is very oily.

Have you tried sorting the source of the problem?

check out a blog called by Caroline Hirons, shes a dermatologist and a genius!!

Over the last few months I've over hauled my skin care routine, and started using a cleansing balm (boots botanics £6 lasts ages) and using the facial oil (boots botanics) before my moisturiser. I know it seems counter intuitive to use oil on oily skin, but it works!! fight fire with fire right? My skin is much more balance, I dont get so much of an oil slick, I still get a little oily, but using a loose powder over my t-zone at the start of the day stops it completely!

I'd recommend blotting papers followed by a powder for reducing oiliness during the day and keeping your makeup looking fresh :)

Sounds like your skin is dehydrated though! I was having a similar problem and found that La Roche Posay Hydreane Legere moisturiser helped me a lot - all of the hydration with none of the oiliness. All of their products are fairly reasonably priced, can be found in Boots and genuinely work.

Also make sure you are wearing an oil-free makeup and oil-free sunscreen. After making these adjustments to my skincare routine and opting for a Bourjois CC cream (lighter than my regular foundation) my skin doesn't get that horrible messy oiliness that gets so annoying.
  • I absolutely love the Blending Powder I got for Amazon. It's by Leichner (yea, I know, I love them :) ) and you get a massive pot for a tenner.

Two of the main ingredients are talc and kaolin, so not too good if you have dark skin but once it's on it doesn't budge :) I put it on with a kabuki brush. You need a fairly light touch!

Somebody already mentioned La Roche Posay but they are very good for oily/problem skin and for what it is a good price. Its inbetween drugstore and high end but fantastic products.

I think rimmel do a stay matt primer not sure how good it is. I use the benefit porefessional for more oily skin and bare minerals powder.

A good setting powder should help like the Stay Matt pressed powder, loads of bloggers and youtubers rave on about and how similar it is to MAC's pressed powder but its around £2-£3. It doesn't go cakey either which is great.

I was watching a video on summer beauty products and the woman recommend Kleenex Blotting Powder which are in home bargains atm for 29p for 50 sheets.

I had similar skin and recently went vegan - cutting out the animal products, eating loads of fruit and veg and drinking more water has really balanced out my skin big time. No more oily bits or blocked pores, no flaky bits, just nice well behaved skin. I've stopped wearing foundation and everything :)

  • I have quite oily skin too & have started using Bare Minerals Original Primer & Mineral veil under my make up, I definitely think I have noticed an improvement too. I switched to Bare Minerals a while ago when my skin was really bad & although it is expensive I really feel it has helped settle it down :)

I'm a guy and I have very oily skin, people kindly remark that they could fry an egg on my forehead (aren't some folk kind!?). Might have to try those blotting paper things...
