MSE News: Flying with Ryanair? New app skips check-in hassle

As above, Ryanair have sorted the paper boarding pass faff with the introduction of the app which as I reported yesterday on another thread I can confirm works perfectly. Four passengers booked in via app a week before outbound flight, one version of app on one iPhone shown at luggage drop both ways. Top customer service I'd say.0

Apologies if I am being a complete idiot about this but there are 6 of us going away so if I get this wrong it will be a very expensive mistake.
Am I right in thinking that I can not have all the boarding passes on my tablet without having to print them off? We are going for a week and at the moment it looks like I am going to have to get up and check us all in online, then print the return flight passes before we leave for our trip which is an added stress as I live in a rural area and out internet has been known to drop for days at a time.0 -
No the whole point of the app is that you do not need to print anything out. Only exemption to this are the small number of overseas airports listed on Ryanair web site which don't accept the app.
I can confirm that a week or so before the flight I downloaded the app then checked in online through it for all 4 passengers on both the outbound flight which was a few days away as well as the return one the following week - the faff about only printing the passes a week before does not seem to apply.
We were all on one booking and so the required codes were displayed like pictures and the one person with the phone just scrolled to show all 4. If you have separate bookings you could put them on the same phone but may need to log into the separate booking.
So as I see it just get the app, check the overseas airport is not on the list of non accepting, and then check everyone in. You will be able to see if it has worked and show everyone their codes to check.
And best of all no paper.0 -

To be on the safe side I switched my booking to the Ryanair website to ensure I could opt out of currency conversion.
Smart move or unnecessary?
To answer my own question, I now know that Ryanair don't use dynamic currency conversion on their app. I purchased a flight at the weekend and it has been processed at a rate of €1.249 to the pound.
This is a big improvement on their website where you pay a mark-up unless you click on "more information" and untick the guaranteed exchange rate.0 -
just discovered this when trying to check-in, ruddy fuming with all this extra hassle!!! and no, the mobile app also forces you to pay a surcharge if you try to check-in for a return flight than 7 days before returning so that is not an option. either panic about trying to find a printer or internet access whilst abroad, or pay their blackmail fee0

I don't know what the extra hassle is squidworth. As I posted above my experience was an easier one with no paper to worry about and certainly no additional surcharge to pay.0

I am unable to download the App onto my Huawei Ascend G300 phone - anyone any ideas if there might be a way around this? I get the message that "no compatible device exists" or words to that effect.0

814man they have changed the app so it is the same as the web site, you have to pay to check in more than 7 days ahead0

They haven't changed the app at all. It's always matched the website, you can only check in free 7 days in advance.
The point with the app is, you don't need to find a printer on holiday. You only need to find somewhere with a wifi connection and 5 minutes of your time to check in via the app and the boarding pass is saved to your phone/tablet.
You'd be going somewhere pretty remote on holiday if you couldn't find a wifi connection within the week before your flight home.0 -
Sorry to disagree here, I know it was a few months ago but I'm pretty certain that I didn't pay an extra fee to check in for the return flight on the app. My flights were booked and paid for via web site many months before. I then read about the app and downloaded it about a week before travel at which time I also completed the check in process for the outbound and return flights at the same time. I recall being very impressed with the process, as I posted on here, and I'm sure I would recall if I'd had to pay a fee.
Happy to stand corrected if I'm wrong, perhaps it was because I was using the app very early on after its release and they have now changed it.0
