Sky Documentaries only

Hi Folks

I just want to ask a specific question. What is the cheapest sky package I can get which has the documentaries.

My current sky package shows as Variety: Sports: Sky +HD: and Sky +. I am paying £46.75 a month. I have cancelled sky sports which will reduce my monthly payments to £25.75

Is that the best I can do? I only like the documentaries. I can get lots of stuff from the free channels. £25.75 seems a lot to pay just for the documentaries and I am debating now whether it is worth it.

The cheapest is zero...but you only get a very limited selection of documentary channels.

Personally I like the documentary channels too. I look through the TV guide and download the ones I want to watch for free or at low cost from iTunes and watch them on the TV but played through the computer/tablet.

Which programs do you enjoy the most?

If you do wish to keep Sky then try cancelling it. They may offer you a half price deal....but you have to really sound like you want to cancel it even going as far as waiting out the entire notice period before Sky retentions call you to offer a deal.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

I like the wildlife and history documentaries also things like Pawnstars. I do have a humax recorder but it is not as easy to use as the sky+ box and I would like to continue to use the sky+ facilities. I just want to be sure I am not paying too much and wonder if anyone else is getting the documentaries for less that what I am paying (£25.75) a month.

If £25.75 is the bottom line then I would probably only continue to have it on condition I was offered a cheaper deal.

These sky packages contain masses of programs that I do not watch. Even sky sports was only used for the football but there were masses of other sports programs that I never ever watched.

Just a thought but maybe sky should make more speciality packages available at cheaper prices.

Per-channel charging would suit many people but it will never happen because channels that only have a small take-up would then not be viable and would cease broadcasting.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Well it isn't - The Humax Freetime PVR arrived yesterday and Sky is being terminated. The Sky subs will pay for the Humax box in seven months and I'll be in profit by Feb next year.
I don't watch sport except F1 and BBC do that pretty well - even the F1 highlights are pretty good and to be honest I wouldn't be devastated if I couldn't watch it anyway.

I've watched most of the repeats of the repeats and in a lot of cases the repeats of those as well. The final insult was the ITV Encore channel - dedicated to repeats just in case you can't find any on the other channels.
I can find better things to do with £300 a year.

I second that last sentiment entirely. For years I have just paid upfront without asking too many questions. Now I am seriously evaluating just what I am getting for my money. So far as the football is concerned I no longer want to contribute to the grotesque overpayment of footballers. It does not make me feel good to know that I am part of the honeypot that keeps the gross uber-inflated circus going. I will make do with the highlights from now on.

It is also on the cards that the Variety pack will go. I am looking at things in a different perspective. A lot of the programmes that I watch and record are on the free channels. You do get documentaries on the free channels and maybe I will take the advice of Happy M and download a few from other sources like You Tube.

They rang me for some reason I think it was for the internet to change to them from my current provider. I said id think about it but while your on, I am very annoyed that everyone I know seems to get deals, I don't wish to stop sky, but friends have had half price deals etc. etc. Anyway he went away and offered me a 10 off per month for 3 months, I think had a letter to say it was extended for another 3 months, I didn't think that was too bad just for asking so took it :) finished now though, might have another go. It is worth asking, although we do pay the full full package so that might be reason why we got something.

Retentions are who cancel you if you go that far. They have their own offers which in some cases are better than the later offers.

The offers you are talking about are "Win-back" offers for cancelled customers.

I'm assuming you're referring to Pawnstars? Or are there some documentary channels I haven't spotted before?
