O/S Daily Thread Thursday 17th July

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Good Morning chums another bright and sunny day ahead by the look of things.I finally went food shopping yesterday first time this month
:):) as I have been using up stuff from my cupboards and freezer.I only bought essentials though plus fresh fruit and veg in the main.I did see some jars of yellow wax beans reduced in the shop to 25p a jar so I bought a jar,not too sure what to do with them but at 25p I'll have to think of something Anyone here tried or used them and in what recipes ??? I have never heard of them but I'm willing to give anything a go for 5/-
:):)
School run this morning then back home to await my gardener Mick who will bring his golden retreiver Pippa along.I am not a 'doggy lady' as such but she is a lovely dog and I have a couple of small treats for her in the kitchen:):):)
I managed to clear all of my ironing last night ,whe it was hot but having started I thought I'll just finish all off in one go.That leaves the next few days to relax and play:):) so it was worth getting hot and sticky for an hour,I then stood in the shower to cool off and had a lovely nights sleep as I had cooled down nicely
:):):)
Right time for another shower and breakfast I have some nice YS rasberries I bought yesterday for silly money so I am going to have some on top of my bran flakes and some yogurt as well Very healthy (and cheap ):):)
Have a good day everyone and don't forget the sun cream
Cheers chums JackieO xxx0 -
Good morning TTFTM - and all who follow :hello:.
Oh well another day dawns - lets see what life can hurl at us this time around :rotfl:!
ttftm - my first time in GN was summer 1966 on a family camping trip with parents. I fell in love with the entire area but I wasn't able to get back there for many reasons. I've now been going back there for the past 16yrs and still adore Lochaber. Pity I'm not up to sleeping under canvas these days - but I DO need a proper bed and a 'modicum of comfort' for my aching bones.
Plans for today include:- Full-day shift in CS - and once again I intend to avoid the 'bargains' and refuse to be tempted
!
- Taking a packed lunch out with me to avoid the sandwich/cake shops.
- Evening meal for tonight is Ham or Beef Salad as there's a bit of a heatwave forecast for today - I'm no good in heat at all
.
- Will check out A$da/Tesco for any whoopsied cooked meats - very poor selection of those yesterday. May need to get some chicken portions out of freezer for cooking to go with salads.
- Didn't manage to get those blouse sleeves altered yesterday
- see if I've got the energy this evening :rotfl:!
- Going to leave the house half an hour earlier than usual to get the bus - that'll save me £3 on the regular taxi fare to the CS :j It's too early in the morning to use my bus-pass, so I usually get a taxi there (£5). There IS a bus but it just takes more effort to get out on time
!
Hope everybody has a good day of OS-ingand sending best wishes/hugs for all who could do with a couple (((((:)))))).
cheers for now - Lilyplonk xxx
Edited to add -
JackieO - love the idea of the '5 bob' yellow wax beans :rotfl:. Is this site of any use to you.

dandy-candy That scanner person needs a course in Bedside Manners. Try to enjoy your break, I'll keep my fingers crossed for next tuesday xx
meanmarie In case I don't see you before, good luck for tomorrow xx
Potato salad made, eggs sorted, seeds sown, pepper plants told offThe new strawberry plants have rooted well, only one didn't take. I've cut off the runners so they're all neat and tidy now.
It was really muggy til lunchtime yesterday, after that it was breezy for the rest of the day. Nice to work in.
I need to weed the greenhouse this morning – not sure where they've suddenly sprung from?
Jo Chick is still soldiering on.
I'm going to wash out some pots today, I usually leave them after I've repotted things then give them all a good clean at the end of autumn. But I always regret it because there's too manyso I'll make some storage space and clean them as I go. Also I want to make a list of what grew well so I can buy the same variety next year.

Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Blue sky and sunshine here already very warm – it didn’t cool off much last night at all – rather muggy too. Washing on the line, another load now in. Plants and greenhouse watered.
DH up and gone to work early but not stupid early.
Dinner last night was sausages, jacket potatoes with cheese and beans with side salads. Tonight we’re having fish, chips/jacket potato, peas/veg/salad.
Work yesterday was steady so the morning passed reasonably quickly. Came home and got going with the chores that needed doing.
Have checked the bank this morning and my tax credits have not been put in, I phoned last Wednesday to tell them that DS1 had finished college and would not be going back, so my entitlement for him has stopped, but I should still have an entitlement for DS2 – I’m waiting to see how long it takes them to get it organised and see how much it’s gone down by – I wasn’t getting very much anyway. At least it’s been stopped quickly so hopefully I won’t have been “overpaid”!
Today I’ll be doing all the chores that need doing – steadily. I’m going to get cracking with the ironing once I’ve finished on here, the pile is huge, but will try to get it done before it gets hot this afternoon. I’ve been washing a load at night and putting it on the line the next day whilst the weather’s been good, so have kept up with it this week, today I’ll just be stripping and washing all the beds – as the bedding will dry really quickly on the line today. Forecast doesn’t look too good for Saturday – so hope to have it all done before then.
Take care in the sun and warm weather, remember the sunscreen x
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone :hello:
Phew, what a scorcher!! My thermometer says its 25 degrees already and it's not even 8 o'clock yet!
I'm going to crack on with making a lasagne for tea before I need to lie down in a darkened room.
Yesterday was a good day, I managed to get out with my daughter and grandson to the local 'spoons and I even ordered a meal there but my daughter's meal had to go back when she found a long grey hair at the bottom of her pasta _pale_. She got the money back and an apology but it rather put us off. But the good thing was I didn't stress and panic and we still had an enjoyable time out.
Just chivvying my girls off to school in a bit and then a quick tidy up before my friend comes for a coffee. Hubby has booked tomorrow off work and will see if he can come home early today as well. Sam's ashes are ready to pick up from the vets so he will go for a long walk along the Tarka Trail and scatter them over the weekend.
Hope everyone manages to enjoy today and avoids heatstroke! Take care xx0 -
Morning all,
It is going to be another scorcher today A really warm night again last night.

Popping to see DD this morning and then this afternoon mammogram .
MeanMarie good luck for tomorrow.
Hugs to all poorlies and those who are just a little bit low.
Have a good day

DH is home today so he did the school run, Its too hot for me outside already so don't plan on going out the house today, I am going to spend the day in the dining room with the sewing machine, I want to make a heart garland for in the bedroom and a peg bag for my friend.
All housework is done, just need to get washed and dressed then prep the dinner which will be butter chicken with rice and Macaroni cheese for DS.
Dandy-candy - Sounds an awful experience you had yesterday... fingers crossed for Tuesday x
Hope everyone has a lovely day xG.C July £21.09/£1000 -
Hi everyone,
We're off to the Wirral today, DH is going to the Open tomorrow. We're staying with his sister till Saturday then going over to Yorkshire, home on Sunday then DH's sis is coming to us for a week. She wants to do a lot of the traditional sights in London so I've been investigating the cheapest ways of doing things. I found out that if you get a member of the clergy (not necessarily C of E) to email they will send a pass for up to 6 parishioners to get in free to Westminster Abbey. Sis-in-law is a regular churchgoer so her minister has got us a pass.
A day of packing for me then and also cleaning the house so it's ok for next week.
Have a good day.0
