Getting broadband in a second property?

Have anyone got any clever tips/solutions for the most cost efficient way to have broadband in a second property? The broadband is not going to be used all the time (as we'll be in our family home for most of the year) so signing up for a 12 or 18 months BT/Sky/Virgin etc contract feels like a waste of money. If you did get BB on contract, you could install Alarm system with dialer, IP Cameras and Nest Thermostat/Nest Protect to remotely monitor the empty property and turn on the heating in advance of your arrival.

also, if you went with BT, you can get BT Sport streaming anywhere you have internet and access BT Wi-fi ('Fon') hot spots where out and about
