End of contract, does title of handset automatically pass over

has anyone ever been asked for the handset they have on their contract to be returned (after the 24 months, or more actually in this case), or for a charge to keep it if it is not?

    The cost of the handset is included in the price of the tariff - that's why SIM only tariff are normally much cheaper than those that come with a phone.

    Unless you're on a type of contract that isn't common, the phone is yours.

    Completely wrong, the handset is yours from the second the transaction is complete on day 1.
