Redrow garden

  • We’ve just moved in to a new build (March). It worked out cheaper for us to buy the dishwasher from the builder than to do it ourselves. Take in account that you might have to pay extra for them to supply the services (our builder did) and you’ll have to buy an extra door to integrate it with your kitchen. Depends on the dishwasher they are supplying, but Redrow usually put in decent appliances.

Keep an eye out for the quality of turf most builders usually just chuck it down without care. My friends Redrow garden had terrible problems and had to re-laid twice because they didn't take care.

Oh, that's very relevant information, did Redrow pay to for the turf to be re-laid twice or did your friend had to do pay himself? And who didn't take care? Redrow or your friend neglecting his garden?

We are 2 adults and a child and we don't have a dishwasher.
Unless you have really a lot of dishes to wash daily, I don't see any value there.

One important thing with freshly laid turf is that you must water it daily until it has established itself. This is the main thing to make the difference, IMHO.

Why are you even considering turf if you are scared of slugs and you won't go in a garden which has turf?

If you can tell me how big your garden (width and length not just sqm) is I can tell you how much it will cost to have artificial lawn put down as I have just had half a dozen quotes.

I used to think that as there are only 2 of us but my sister persuaded me to have a dishwasher when I had a new kitchen put in and I am so glad I did and that I went for a full sized one. I only run it every 2 or 3 days and all the dirty dishes just sit in there out of sight until it is full.

Well, IMHO that proves my point...

Not really, it means that I never have to spend time doing the washing up and I didn't really mind doing it before I had the dishwasher but now I couldn't live without one because I am so used to not having to do it.

    Everyone's entitled to his taste.
Having dirty dishes rotting in a dishwasher (which takes space, costs, etc.) for days, just to save the 5 minutes it takes to wash by hand is not worth it for me.

Yes, I can understand that a lot of people wouldn't want that and I ensure I eat smelly food such as mackerel when I know I am going to run the dishwasher, but for me washing up was a tedious, thankless task that I would rather not do and it rarely took just 5 minutes (perhaps I am slow) as we are both at home all day.

I see you're one of those people who think they can't live without a dishwasher...
I suppose you can't live without Sky / Virgin Media / YouView too? :P

Ditch the dishwasher, as others have said, but make sure they do the best job on the turf.
