Sky - And another one bites the dust

Been with Sky for just on 15 years - finally made the call to them and cancelled the contract.
The final straw was a £48 p.a. increase when they are essentially now providing less useful coverage of UK football. Very stupid of them to try to make an increase and bring customer scrutiny down upon their pricing, which when compared to Virgin and BT does not stand up well to scrutiny.
Obviously I got the hard sell from them:
Their (Virgin's) broadband isn't as good as they say it is : true, but even with the traffic shaping it's better than Sky's;
We're actually providing more football by providing SP5 with Dutch footy on it : Who want's Dutch footy? Was their phone ringing off the hook with people asking where the Dutch footy is? ;
The quality is better and equipment is better : Well my Sky+ box hangs twice a week, let's see if Virgin's box is that bad eh? ;
You can't allow another provider into your house for 30 days, that's in your Sky agreement : No it isn't. Utter nonsense!
Then they finally offered up a pretty p1sspoor discount of a few quid a month in desperation - that didn't sway me.
I know Virgin doesn't have the best reputation for quality and customer service, so may be jumping out of the frying pan into the fire, but I'll give it a go for a year and see how I fair.
Maybe TV provision is becoming like car and house insurance, where you need to change provider every year to obtain the best introductory deals.

Optimists see a glass half full
Pessimists see a glass half empty
Engineers just see a glass twice the size it needed to be

Virgin's BB is far superior to anything Sky could ever hope to offer. We gave up watchng live TV and the 152Mb (actual 138Mb) is well worth it. Forget Retentions - try the other side, as you can always go back if it doesn't work out.
The fact you have the choice at all, is superb!0 -
