You need legal help, because at the time it was renewed, they should have informed you about it.0

They were informed see post #8 in the thread.0 -

"Pistonheads,
Just to make you all aware, it would appear that a certain car insurance company (can I name them or is that shaming them)? Have for some reason stopped automatic renewal.
I phoned last month and got the new price, fine by me, and just let nature take it's course. Yesterday, I was handed a letter, which was from said company. I thought, it's just conformation of new price, details etc. It was infact a letter from them stating that tomorrow (today) my insurance runs out and they're worried that if I don't phone up to say "go ahead" I will no longer be insured.
I've been with said company for the last 4 years and always let it auto renew itself.
I've been a lucky boy this time, so I am passing this on to make others aware."

Not a single person agreed with him, no one wants auto renewal in that thread, apart from the op.0 -
The AA have graciously refunded me the money I paid over 2 years for the breakdown cover. I didn't read the small print so they didn't have to do this, but were very nice to me. THANK YOU AA.
When I DO get a car, I shall make sure it's covered with you.

Auto-renewal is a menace. It's a kind of inertia selling. At best you have to ring up two insurance companies rather than one, if you want to move at renewal time.
Last time I renewed (M&S) I insisted they took off auto-renewal; they agreed to do so, but I suspect many won't.0 -

Only for someone like you who wouldn't be capable of a polite phone call. I find auto-renew a easy way to renew my policy, otherwise I give them a quick call and job done."Always fulfil your needs, only fulfil your wants when your needs are no longer a concern" - citricsquid0 -
Of course it's 'easy'. It's designed that way to disguise the fact you could save a fortune by doing a little bit of diligence and saving some money.
I have NEVER failed to save money by taking this little step - it is the MSE way. This month alone I have saved £42 by not letting my Hone insurance renew, £70 by not letting my car insurance renew, and £140 by not letting the RAC do the same. So, I have now £252 in my bank which I would not have if I followed your advice.
This forum is to help you save money, not fritter it away through laziness.0
