What to do with old TVs?

A lot of people seem excessively keen the OP throws out their TVs without even asking, what exactly do they have? Certain sets are worth hundreds of pounds. Admittedly it's unlikely, but lets get the actual details first?
Here's a couple of examples I found with the eBay ended listing search tool:
Someone got £36 for a funky design, but not greatly special TV:

£10 for a relatively modern, but still CRT SD set. Probably sold because it's a good make, some of these actually do better. Beats spending petrol to take it down the dump, and more green if you care about that kind of thing:

Someone else got £240 for a vintage collectable set. Some are worth more than most realise:

I didn't have to search too hard for these, they were all in the first two pages of ended listings I found.0 -

They are useable but the big one won't work without a box as it's analogue.
I have enough TVs I don't need anymore unless I put it in the bathroom which seems a bit excessive!
Thanks for the advice. Noone seems to want anything on my freecycle - I put an exercise stepper up and got one reply which is all you need but I often put stuff up which is perfectly useable and noone replies
Can't you can always just buy a freeview box with a TVB-T2 tuner and plug it in, so long as the TV and the tuner both have a scart lead?0 -
If it's a decent CRT in good working order like a Sony Trinitron they are good for retro gaming.
If this is the case your lucky you may get rid of it via Freecycle.0 -
We used to have a massive Panasonic TV that took up half the room and weighed a ton. I hated it. When we decided to get a smaller flat-screen, we spoke to the owner of an old people's home, who was delighted to take it away and use it. As far as I know, it's still providing entertainment to a lot of old dears, and in the large room they had there it didn't look out of place.
We had a couple of 14" portables which went to the council tip. We literally couldn't give them away.If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -

If it's really big I think some councils might even arrange collection. DO NOT send it to landfill.0 -
i had the old flat screen type that had a massive tube at the back. i put it on ebay for collection only on a 3 day listing - sold for a quid for someone who's TV had just broken and was desparate for another one until he could get round to/afford to get a new one. saved me having to lug it to the tip or anywhereYou're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *0
