I did see quite a few shops in Liverpool with signs on their windows seeking staff. And a lot of agencies too.

Where? Sure it was in Liverpool? I haven't seen any signs in windows here!

Don't even get me started on agencies. I have registered with most of them here, but they haven't sent me one single job.

Yes. I was in Liverpool for a conference and saw several signs looking for staff. Some of the shops on the road with the Bombed Out Church, and up by the RC cathedral.

Don't rely on agencies sending you jobs. Its about being proactive with them. They don't work for you.

There's definitely jobs out there. But unfortunately if you have no qualifications, you end up competing for the same jobs as everyone else with no qualifications.

I can't see how it's the economies fault? The North West doesn't seem to be doing too badly on the Engineering/Technology front.....

Perhaps you are the problem then. If your finding jobs to apply for but getting know where you may need to look inward.

Very true - have you considered this?

I am FED UP with sending off my CV, applying for job after job on all these jobsites, and getting nowhere. Employers are being BOMBARDED with applications. They can pick and choose.

    Perhaps it's your personality?

Have you looked at the care sector?
There are old people needing help in all areas.

Google "jobs on the wirral" and the first result gives,

    http://www.indeed.co.uk/jobs-in-Wirral,

    over 28,000 vacancies.

Or to put it another way - yes OP, there are no jobs. Not one.

And everyone who has a job is just lucky.

At various points in my career I've been lucky enough to do every single one of the following jobs -

theatre usherette, insurance clerk, insurance negotiator, cleaner, sandwich maker, shop assistant, Avon lady, childminder, waitress, party plan rep, primary school teacher, supermarket check-out, running an art gallery, teacher of English as a foreign language, private tutor, company director.

Some of them I got through personal contacts (that means impressing people when you're not even trying to impress them), some of them I got through just writing 'on spec' with my CV, some of them were adverts in shop windows, some of them were by answering an ad in the paper, some of them involved lengthy training/re-training, some of them were my own business. So far I've lived through 3 recessions, but I've never been unemployed.

I do understand that it is soul-destroying to be forever writing off for jobs and never getting anywhere. And I'm sure you're just feeling the need to vent on here. BUT you also have to see if you can work it out for yourself. Why do you think you're not getting anywhere?

If you post a bit more about yourself - age, previous experience, qualifications and anything else relevant - you will get a more positive response. At the moment you're just coming over as having a bad attitude.
No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...
  • OP I hope you take in the post above which I think is very constructive. In particular the last paragraph.

Tell us a bit more about you, as it does come across you are awkward and have a bad attitude, which as TS says I'm sure isn't the case.
