As mentioned on the forum if you don't like the increase you can leave penalty free.

I took the LRS option so mine is fixed until the year is up and when I moved from VM I stuck the the VOIP provider I was using because of VM's exhorbitant telephony charges.

I think line rentals are bound to go up and up as the amount spent on landline calls must be in freefall now so many people have expensive mobile deals to fund smartphones which also give lots of talktime.

I agree. And as you say, the OP has the option to leave penalty free and seek others services if they are not happy. However everyones put their line rental prices up recently, so Plusnet are only falling into line with the rest.

The thing is, they don't need to fall in line! the wholesale price for line rental has gone down. They pay BT Wholesale a set price and then jack up the price to fund their ultra low broadband for new customers!

The cost of the line hasn't gone up, maintaining the line each year costs plusnet or any other ISP no more than the wholesale prices.

Stop selling your broadband products below cost and stop stitching up loyal customers!

    Hello,

I have recently joined sky tv and have noticed that plusnet are hiking their prices.

They are going to charge me a £30 cease fee... I thought i would have to pay nothing if i wanted to cancel after a price hike?

Sky broadband currently have that 2 years free offer which im looking at joining. Is there anyway sky would be able to pay the cease fee or is there anyway that the cease fee can be struck off as I was under the impression I could leave for free.

You will not have to pay any Plusnet fee, the cease fee is a BT charge for the work involved to disconnect the line, it is charged to all ISP's and they pass it on to the customer.

Make sure you get a MAC and use it to migrate. The cease fee is for permanent ADSL terminations and when no MAC is used.

Can I get a MAC key from plusnet and give it to sky even though sky have their own switching service

Yes. I'm not even sure Sky can legitimately swap without one as it is the Migration Authorisation Code and Openreach, in theory at least, shouldn't move the tie pair over to Sky without it. Not that it has protected many people from TalkTalk slamming in the past where they weren't even aware they'd agreed to take their service.
