Broadband and/or Line Rental - South London

Hi all,
We are soon going to be moving into our flat we bought in SW16, south London, and just wanted to know if anyone has advice or recommendations on what broadband package to go for.
Not too sure what the recent tenants had in place but potentially saw a BT phone socket on the wall if I remember correctly.
My girlfriend works from home and needs the internet for general day-to-day emailing and downloading the odd high res images. I do a bit of online gaming on my PS4 so a high upload and download speed would be great. A high ping rate would also help ive been told.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

I live in the SW16 area.
The main thing I would suggest is to avoid Virgin - I used them for internet back in early 2011 and their utilisation rate was awful, leading to the internet becoming unusable in the evenings. Gaming was impossible. I tolerated it for 2 months, but there was clearly not going to be any change happening soon so I switched. A quick search suggests the issue still wasn't solved by early this year - link here.
I moved to BE who were fine until Sky took over. Although I wasn't very enthusiastic about it, I tried Sky as they were giving it away for free, and have to say their service is excellent. Very good ping (6-10ms), speed (16+MB) and jitter (1ms) ratings and absolutely fine for gaming (just their standard up to 17MB internet, not fibre).0 -
Thanks for your response on this hugheskevi. Funnily enough I have gone through the same list as you. Virgin first (terrible speeds and worse customer service) and then BE, which I was satisfied with over all.
I work for a sister company to SKY as well and so think I can get discount on there broadband/tv packages.
I have had great service from BT recently as well so will see which of the two work out more cost effective.0 -
Since broadband is exchange-specific, do a samknows search to find out what LLU options are available on your exchange. Postal districts don't help, especially in London. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks macman. It says that our nearest exchange (Streatham) has the following LLU services available to it - AOL, O2/Be, Sky, TalkTalk, Tiscali.
It does not include BT on the list of operators whatsoever; does this mean BT do not offer LLU services?0
