Unpaid switchover bill

Hi,
I used to work for plusnet and I recently moved to York and got a new job. At my Sheffield address I used to get broadband for free as I worked at PN. When I went back this weekend to collect mail, my ex-housemates had swapped thebroadband to talktalk and it had created some sort of switchover charge which plusnet sent me a bill for. Now they have passed it on to a debt collector but it’s all going to my old address. Should I just ignore this charge or would it be better to pay it off? And would it affect my credit check? I don't really see why I should have to fork out to pay it though.

I'm guessing it's in the order of £30 because the swap was done without a MAC. If this were me I'd just pay it. If you had tidied up your affairs properly when you moved out you'd still have been charged but it wouldn't have gone to a debt collector which has probably already impacted your credit rating.0

You'd trash your credit record for 6 years for the sake of £30?No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I had no idea about it until recently!0 -
Have you cancelled your electric and gas? The internet is just another utility which needs to be cancelled if you move. With your name on the account you'd have been responsible for any illegal activity on it (e.g. visits to kiddy fiddler websites).0

Yes it was, but waht kind of response is that?! I came here to get a basic understanding if this charge could effect me in the long run. But instead I'm just getting idiots replying...0
