Virgin Media disconnection fee

Hello everyone!

I'm moving from a virgin media cabled house to a non cabled area. This means I would need to disconnect my services at my old address and install a alternative provider at the new address.

The customer service man told me he could not disconnect my services for free (even if I've paid for line rental saver; which it clearly states on THEIR OWN SITE!!?!?!?!?!) - he said that if you change your talk plan from weekend calls to anytime in the middle of the contract; it starts a new contract!?!?! This was never said on any of their terms.

And this is their fault that they can't supply services at the new house.

Any ideas on how to overcome this? I've spoken to 3 people on their customer services and one said that if I refer 3 people I would get this disconnect for free - what is this malarkey!!! Thanks for ripping off your customers with this - again :T

    Hardly.
It's your fault (if it is anyone's) for moving to an area that is not cabled.

Any enhancement to your services will have started a new minimum term, I'm afraid.

So any attempt to cancel your subscription before the end of the new minimum term will result in you having to pay an Early Termination of Contract (ETC) fee.

This question comes up regularly, but the answer is always the same-you'll have to pay.

As above. It's not a disconnection fee, it's a charge for breaking your minimum term contract agreement. You contracted at the current address, not elsewhere, and VM do not offer universal coverage.
So not a rip-off-it's in the T&C's you agreed.

The way VM operate their business is a bit of a rip off. They'll happily either increase charges or fail to pass on reductions to existing customers. Some existing customers will just pay up and so be ripped off. Others will call in and pay a more reasonable price but get saddled with a new minimum term so should they ever move on without careful timing will get an early termination charge. Their agents have form for not making the new minimum term clear.

I think you'll find it's just modern consumerism.

There is no margin for compassion/tolerance or any of the warm fuzzy stuff because the customer is not paying for it. If you paid your plumber £200 for a job he will gladly do a little extra for you, but if you squeeze the price down to £100 all the time, he will be forced to squeeze you back.

On the other hand, if you are alert and wear crotch protection all the time, you get a very good deal for what you pay.
