    Hello everyone,

I am bit a bit late to enter the club of PVs owners as I am only at the quotation stage
However, I would like ask your thoughts and experience.

    I got the following quotation

    6750 Pounds for

Solar PV Array 16 x 250 Ahead Monocrystalline
Solar Panel Mounting Wurth Mounting Equipment
    Solar PV Inverter Omnik
Solar PV Guarantee 85% Guarantee after 25 years
    Solar Inverter Guarantee 10 years
Online Monitoring Included via Wi Fi

I could have it for 6550 if two of my neighbours buy it too., if only one of them I get 100 pounds discount.

From what I read on the forum, it would seem that my quote is quite high but could it be that the kit is of better quality ?

Thank you in anticipation for your feedback
    Best regards

It might mean that but I rather doubt it. If you get a host of postings saying that their kit is the best thing since sliced bread I'll be the first to apologise :D

The real problem is that lots of people will be wanting to 'join the club' before the rules change so contractors are bound to take advantage and push up prices. It's always worth asking for several quotes before accepting any.

I originally posted this in september last year and nobody has posted since then! What made you want to post your query here NacNac?

Mine cost 1k less in sept 14 so A bit pricey but you need to get it done asap to avoid the FIT drop.

This topic is not a one off. It is interesting to read the history, how things have progressed/regressed.

As I can tell cost of installation have not really dropped much in 18 months.

I have received other quotations and they go between 5400 to 6500 (I got my original quotation reduced). So I do not think PV installers are trying to use put their price up before of the FIT changing mid of January.

I find forum like moneysavingsexpert very interesting. It is often very hard for non specialist to make an informed decision. Such forum helps. especially those which are fully independent, managed and have high quality contributors (for most of them).

It would also be interesting to see what a 4kW installation will cost in 12 months time.

What I can tell is that in the last 24months, ROI has not improved as installation costs remained more or less the same but FIT reduced significantly. So in 12 months, if price is the same as today, those investing will have a poor ROI.
I therefore think PVs will not be seen as much investments.

The "end" of FIT will not sign the end of the industry but it should clearly hurt the companies which rent your roof. Their business model was on the FIT. No FIT, no interest.

I hope this answers your questions.
    Best regards

    Hi,

Apologies if this is in the wrong place, please advise if it needs to be elsewhere. I've been quoted £6990 for the following:-

    3.99 kW
Solar Modules 14 JA Solar JAM-60/285-PR modules
    Module Dimensions 39.0" x 65.0"
    Inverter(s) Omnik Omniksol-4.0k-TL-2
    First Year Production* 2,421 kWh
    Consumption Offset 30%

I'm aware that this is probably a bit expensive but I can get it done before the FIT drop in January. I've been told that the instillation is dearer due to the cost of scaffolding, partly because scaffolding companies know of this rush and can charge a premium and partly because my house, with a bay window at the front and decking at the back, requires more expensive (bridging?) scaffolding.

Should I rush into this or shop around more or even not bother with going solar - I have the £6990 but it's a lot of money but also not earning any interest.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sounds like they are making a killing in charging something like £2,000 more than many other firms.

Do your 'sums' carefully. especially with only 2,421kWh from a 3.99kWp system?? Where are you in UK?
