LLoyds TSB- I'm fuming [UPDATED...AGAIN]

Long story short(ish)-

We paid in full off a Lloyds personal loan when we re-mortgaged- 1st July 2005

Yesterday we received a letter from Lloyds saying that 'because there was not enough money in your account, we have had to stop payments). This was funny because We knew we had £500 sitting in there.

We log onto Lloyd online banking to see that they've taken out £476 for a Lloyds personal loan- thus pushing us over our overdraft limit by £100- and they've not allowed our car insurance to take their payment.

We call Lloyds, get passed from one person to another who said that we still had a personal loan with them and we haven't paid the monthly installments for 2.5 years (since we paid it off in full). Finally get passed to the loans department who said: 'Ah we can see that you've paid the loan off- we don't know why you have been charged this payment!'

We get another letter this morning saying that we owe Lloyds £27450 - They've charged us for the letters, the failed DDs, going the overdraft and our car is now not insured.

Call them again today- they are still investigating. They can see that we paid the loan in full on 1/7/2005, but they can not see where the money has gone to! They think that we 'might' get our money back in 2 weeks- until then we have to live on thin air, because we can't get an extended overdraft as we have 'defaulted' on 2.5 years of (non existent) loan repayments.

Call in to your branch of Lloyds first thing tomorrow and ask to speak to the manager, take all the documentation you can find relating to your loan and when you paid it off.....refuse to leave until this mess is sorted out.

Expecting you to wait 2 weeks with no money because of their mistake is totally unreasonable.

I think you should get compensation for bouncing the insurance, the cost of the dd to bounce. The cost of the fee.

Should you put pen to paper about the trauma/stress it has caused you and your kin.

I bank with Lloyds TSB (over 20 years) and I have had two short-term loans both paid off and never a problem. Kept totally in the loop about payments, interest charges etc etc which they adhered too. This sounds a bit of a glitch. I think there are grumps with all banks because I think this is the current financial climate.

Hope you can resolve the matter.

No, i'm not asking for compensation. I DO want all of my money back plus all fees and I DO want an apology. I want the bad credit rating they've been giving me for the last 2.5 years wiped clean plus the bad credit i'm now going to get for missing insurance payments. I want the cost of the 3 hours i've spent on the phone because of their c0ck up reimbursed. Most of all, I want to be able to get some money out to feed my children.

BTW the bank rang and said that they *think* that the problem is that our loan was due to finish yesterday- but they still don't know why it's happened :(

Alanalea if there is one thing I've heard time and time again in these kind of problems is often speaking to someone face to face in your branch can speed up resolution. If it's at all possible I strongly recommend you go to your branch ASAP.

Lloyds completely screwed up my loan the other way round to you. Paid my monthly payments up to term then they discovered they'd worked them out wrong and I still owed them £1000

I think, I'm not sure, that if you phone Lloyds TSB in usual banking hours they will transfer your call to your branch if you ask them to. May save you a visit to the bank ?

    Maybe worth a try.
