Hi,

If you or anyone you know happens to receive any billing or contracts in regards to the sales of goods or services (such as store credit cards) then please contact Action Fraud immediately

Various trading names under Shop Direct, for example very.co.uk are frequently being targeted by fraudsters and Shop Direct's fraud team are slow to act.

The people who are committing fraud make an application online using variations of a person's name.

Shop Direct uses Equifax as a credit search and this system does not pick up variations in names. Shop Direct also allows applications to be auto-accepted, e.g. there is no person to physically underwrite an agreement.

The way Equifax works is to do a search on the home address. Then a search is made against occupants residing at that address during the last 3 years but variations of names slip through the net.

Another things the fraudsters do is to select that they are an existing customer, however, it is optional whether or not you have to type in the current agreement number. If the agreement number is not entered, it is not even passed onto an underwriter for verification :T

Should the person (whose identity has been stolen) has a high ScoreBand, then this is auto-accepted and the fraudster can select to choose a payment plan of Buy Now Pay Later for goods over £1000

Even better still, the contract is sent to your home address and it does not have to be signed and returned . .luckily for the fraudster

It is apparent that inside knowledge has been used yet when I phoned the fraud team they were completely clueless to the basics of anti-fraud practices.

Action Fraud will take your reports seriously and will help with issues regarding CIFAS so your credit will be safeguarded from fraudsters and Shop Direct.

You also have rights to make a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman in regards to your credit being put at unnecessary risk and this will force Shop Direct to change their practices as they have been an easy target for a few years now and have done absolutely nothing to resolve the flaws in their credit practices.
