I may be wrong but please be aware that "Recorded" may not be the best option for valuable items:

If you need to send valuables, money or jewellery, you should use Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed™ as this will enable you to claim compensation in the unlikely event of loss or damage. Valuables sent using any other service are not eligible for compensation.

Yes definitely second this. I sent a reasonably high value item via Recorded, it was not received by the buyer & Royal Mail could not track it within their system. I lost out as they would only refund me £50 (& it took 3 months to get that off them!) which was then their maximum compensation, it's now been reduced to £20 so DEFINITELY use Special Delivery even though it's pricey.
Ebay is great despite the fees, you have a record of everything that way & you probably won't get that much less hopefully.
    Good luck & well done :) x x

Well done on your win - I would talk to the auction house first, and explain that you need a new chair, etc. Most will waive their vendor fees and commission for charities, so they might do likewise for you... No harm in trying, anyway :)

I'd like to thank everyone who posted replys and congratulations on this thread. So generous and kind of you all. They really helped me to decide how to proceed. A good friend of mine has a friend who owns an independent jewellers. I took it there and they bought it from me. They have to sell it as a second hand watch and they will probably end up getting £1500 for it, which I probably would get at auction, but then take off the commision. He gave me a £1000 cash so it was a fair price. Have the money to put towards my electric wheelchair and also I can now hire one, in the meantime, for when I need to use it for hospital. Thanks everyone! :A

The mark up on jewellery/watches is massive so a £1,000 in your pocket is not bad
