Good morning everyone. I've had a sleepless night and would be grateful for some advice.

Does anyone know what my son's legal position would be if she did get caught?

Am I overreacting or does anyone else think it's OK to add a few unscanned items to a trolley load? If I'm not overreacting, how do I convince her to stop doing this or my ds to refuse to go into the shop with her?
Would be good if someone could find some court cases or other evidence of people that have been caught doing this and what happened to them. Might be the wake up call ds and gf need.
Hope you manage to make them see sense. :)

Sorry, this is not even borderline - it is shoplifting and would be prosecuted.

DS needs a serious word - he could be seen as complicit/a member of the shoplifting "gang" if he is going through the checkout/walking out with the trolley. They do have visible (and hidden) cameras and monitor Self scan/scan as you shop particularly because of the risk - it is only a matter of time before this ends horribly. Our T said they are not putting in the scan as you shop as they already have one of the highest levels of shoplifting :(.

It is no way comparable to glitches or using their APG/PP systems against them. I have a moral compass and can live happily with myself glitch shopping and even pushing the limits on APG (£100/10 receipts limit ignored) but putting in items and deliberately not paying? GF needs her head read - if they prosecute, they will make an example of her to deter others and demonstrate the integrity of their system - reputation, public humiliation, impact on career ...!

Agreed. This girl needs a checkup from the neck up. Cruising for a bruising as they say!

You'd be lucky to find any unless it concerns habitual offenders and that would be a whole different ball game.
The likely outcome of a first time shoplifting offence wouldn't involve a trip to court, but it would probably mean a conditional caution........but only if guilt were admitted.
