Not everyone drives like you. We've seen your videos. And as to the other, brake lights are worth looking out for.

You've seen my videos and I've seen your posts, I think almost every single one is trolling.

Brake lights dont always work, especially it seems on trailers and caravans. If you drive around relying on brake lights then it won't be long before you have an accident.

So either you're saying the op's brake lights didn't work, or not only should the biker not have relied on seeing them, he should have taken more care anyway in case they weren't working?

Man sounds like it was entirely his fault. I'd make sure you get that clarified asap - no way you should pay an excess!

But just to echo what the other guys have said, there's idiots everywhere. I was riding behind someone yesterday on the way back from the shops - maybe doing 15-20mph intending to filter into the left hand land where I was about to turn off. The car in front jammed his breaks on, thankfully I was quite a way back and slowing down otherwise I'd have hit him.

It's amazing what people will do. It's literally tantamount to murder

Lots of reasons why you need to jam your brakes on. The only time you know for sure it's not necessary is if you're the one doing it. Otherwise you leave a gap you can jam your brakes on in as well, and hope the guy behind isn't going to blame you for jamming your brakes on when he hits you if he can't work it out.

I now have to fart around getting quotes and informing my insurers of his stupidity. Claim free for over 10 years so glad I have PNC on my insurance but still have to fork out my excess.
Just claim directly from his insurer. No farting about, no loss of excess.

    Yes you are. :D

Why do the majority of OAP's bimble along far too slowly and obstruct traffic on A roads, but then speed through villages at 35-40 mph?

Why do HGV drivers insist on taking 10 minutes to pass each other at 50mph on a dual carriageway with a speed differential of 0.001 mph?

Why do the majority of boy racers fit loud and annoying exhaust pipes to their cars?

Why do the majority of car drivers never look out properly for cyclists and motorbikes?

And I suspect there are many more such questions out there.....

The roads are full of idiots. In all types of vehicle, and of all ages.

Blaming the mode of transport an idiot chooses rather than the idiot himself somewhat misses the point.....;)

Most of these 'why dos' aren't dangerous in themself though. A car going slower than you'd like or a lorry in lane 2 of a dual carraigeway isn't an accident waiting to happen - where as some muppet driving a bike too close to a car and too high a speed is dangerous.

I'd agree with op - most bikers seem to think they own the roads and can do whatever they please, irrespective of how dangerous it is.
Bikers tailgate, passing on the white lane between two lanes of traffic (whether them lanes are going the same way or not), cutting in at the front of round abouts as you prepare to move off - just a few of the stupid things many riders do.

So yes since a large majority of bikers are idiots I think ops post is fair game.

I have a bike, and to be fair, you're right, there's a large amount of absolute ****heads on bikes. From a defensive driving point of view, the best you can do as an intelligent human being is get out of their way so when (not if) they crash, it's into someone other than yourself. Yeah, you've got every right to go down the road at the correct speed, slowing and stopping for hazards. I won't deny that someone riding dangerously is in the wrong, but you can't fix stupid, so let them get on with it.

Rule number 1, look after number 1.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

Probably another biker who saw the brake lights, decided they should go for the overtake, without wondering why the op was braking. Accelerated, saw the car in front starting to turn right, blind panic, slammed on the brakes, and dropped the bike. OP did the best he could by accelerating hard, so at leave it wasn't his face the got the back of the truck.

Car drivers often drive in the middle lane of motorways when not overtaking, park on double yellow lines, drive through amber lights, break the speed limit, don't always indicate when they should, use wrong lanes at roundabouts.

Should we assume all car drivers are the same terrible drivers since most are?
