OS Daily Sunday 13th July

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Chin up, Titus out.

Hello and morning to all :)
I was awoken at about 5am by torrential rain and couldn't get back to sleep!
I'm a bit of an intermittent poster here. I've noticed lately that I am having trouble holding my concentration in many things so I am going to try and make more of an effort to do things regularly, including posting here.
Last night I picked my first beans from the garden and they were delicious, so today I will do some weeding and feed the tomatoes. I also have a beekeeping lesson at 11am and I've missed the last 3 classes so I must definitely go today.
I have a knitting project on the go which is a jumper with a lacy pattern on a 16 row repeat, it's taking me far too long to do! I will dig it out tonight while DH is watching something about cars or DIY on tv.
Ds2 comes back from T in the Park today - his first ever festival - I hope he has enjoyed it!
Hugs and a wonderful day to everyone!
• Hello. I'm a bit of a lurker but I nearly always sit and read these threads on Sunday mornings. My kids are driving me up the wall already so looking forward to taking them swimming then back home for Sunday lunch. This afternoon I'll put them to work in the garden I think.

Have a nice day. x

Morning all
Fish fed, hubby & I have a cuppa.
Hugs to Molly & Hilly.
LW I hope you and Mr LW are well.
I really need to get a grip on the housework today, I'm falling further & further behind. What with hubby working extra shifts, I worked 'til 10 one evening & visiting MIL & stepdad, he had a bad fall last week & they were in A&E for 11 hours. We took MIL's jacket over, she's started to knit it & couldn't manage it, I asked a friend to finish it for her, she's delighted with it.
The new car is comfortable to drive & I love the 'sit up & beg' driving position, my neck is usually very stiff after driving, but it wasn't yesterday.
Today's plans include ironing clothes for next week & making my own version of Muller corner yogurts as I find the shop ones far too sweet. So I've cooked some HG rhubarb with a few plums that were past their best, I cooked them in some elderflower cordial but not added any sugar, I shall make some unsweetened yogurt & put both into small pots to take to work. I'm cooking chicken for lunch & we will have leftovers for lunches next week with HG salad.
Time I made a start.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

• Good morning everyone,

Well we had the predicted rain during the night, but it has freshened up the garden. When it clears Himself needs to go out and dead head the roses.

A quiet day planned, not going anywhere, DD knows we are here if she needs us.

Roast lamb, fresh broad beans and carrots, and roast and new potatoes for lunch, with lashings of mint sauce, not sure about dessert yet.

The only washing is the clothes we took off last night, so if the rain doesn't clear it won't matter.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Morning :hello:

Coffees all round :coffee::coffee::coffee:

Julie If you can plait hair, you can plait onions. Having said that, my first few were very messy and a couple fell out when I hung them, lol. I resorted to following a YouTube video – and using the pause button a lot :D

I pushed my leg too far a couple of days ago while doing my exercises so it's a bit sore, I'll take it easier today. Really must learn how to be patient :D I just want it back to normal ASAP. My Fix Me plan is going well apart from that, my shopping trolley is all bran flakes, granary rolls, fruit and veg, yogurts etc. I've even given up my usual saturday lunchtime favourite – Young's Admiral's Pie :D I'm still eating choc though, though just as a treat now instead of a food group :rotfl:

Yesterday I started raking and weeding the area where the onions were and soon gave up. It was far too hot and muggy out there. It's supposed to cooler today so I'll try again later. Apart from that, I only have a couple of loads of washing to put out then I'm done for the day :D

The City Beach event is on today, the man-trus are helping out so they'll be gone all day. I might nip down after lunch, depending on how I feel.

• Morning everyone, we're overcast here this morning and definately cooler which is nice for houseworking and kitcheny things. No rain here overnight though we could really use some for the garden. The crops continue in ever increasing quantities we've many cucumbers so I'll try selling some on the front garden , they might go as it's Sunday and more folks walking. We use any earnings for next years seeds so it all helps feed us in the long run.

DD flew last night at 9 and lands on african soil at 9 this morning for an ongoing flight to Zambia, apparently the children were in very good form yesterday and there were no hold ups and no problems going through security and passport control. I hope they have the most amazing time and grow in experience and understanding as they see just how good our lifestyle is here compared to those folks who live in a very different way in a third world country. My one memory of her Tanzania trip was a young man who was a runner making friends with a tanzanian lad his own age who was also a runner, they ran every day there were there on the project and at the end the lad in the school party gave his good running shoes to the other lad who had been running barefoot as his family coundn't even afford everyday shoes, let alone running shoes!!! Good stuff Eh?

I'm ironing next to get it done before the heat builds and have some nice marinated salmon for lunch with a homegrown salad, Mmmmmm lovely!

Have a good day everyone, Lyn xxx.

Morning all,

Rained during the night but getting hotter again now, typically I had left some washing on the line overnight so hopefully it will dry today, bedding is in the wm which will also he hung out.

We went to a fresh fish hut yesterday and bought scallops and a dressed crab and had them for dinner with salad and bread and butter, they were both absolutely delicious, scallops are one of my very favourite things :D

I have got a massive chicken for dinner today which I will put in the oven shortly before it gets too hot, we will have leftovers during the week, today we will have it with mash and salad.

Did not get round to the garden yesterday so I will do it today, OH managed to mow though so that's a bit tidier.

Have good days all xx

Hello to everybody - don't think I've ventured onto this thread before ................... but then again, my memory ain't what it used to be and it's quite possible that I may have posted here quite a while ago :o:(:o.

I had a while away from MSE due to too much going on in my life and problems that required my full attention. When I tried to come back, I'd lost all my member details and log-in info, so had to re-register under another name.

I'm usually posting on 'What are you having for dinner tonight?' - but sometimes find myself waffling away and thought that some of that 'stuff' might be better shared over here so I won't be clogging up the other thread ;).
• Spent parts of yesterday altering holiday clothes for my DSis who's managed to lose a couple of dress sizes in the past few months. She's going away in a few weeks and was  to find that her collection of strap-less frocks were in danger of slipping off her 'greatly-reduced boobies' :rotfl:.
• I'm also going visiting Mum in hospital today so will return the bag of clothes and leave them with Mum - Sis will be visiting this evening, so she can collect them at the same time ;).
• Due to the distance that I've got to travel (using my 'twirly bus pass') to the hospital - in true OS-style, I take a packed lunch with me.
• I've been noseying at the 'Free Kindle Books' page this morning and found 12 that I like the look of - they're now downloaded to my Kindle :j! It's also fully charged, so I'll be reading all the way to the hospital :).
• Tomorrow is my dgs1's (not-so-sweet-16) birthday. No point at all in trying to do something OS where she's concerned - but I have managed to put some money to one side and will put it onto a voucher for her. Not for anything extravagant - she's not long had a small fortune spent for her Prom - but it will help to get her some every-day stuff that she'll probably need at some point as she's starting College in October.

I'm eternally living in hopes that she'll 'fall out of the In-Crowd' and discover 'the Creative Crowd' :rotfl:.

I'm really looking forward to getting 'to know' everybody on this thread and reading all your posts.

Thanks for letting me in - I'll bring tea/coffee and hobnobs next time :D!
