  • Hi amandaatnumber7, this thread keeps us all on track and it has such lovely people posting.

My plan for today is a very lazy one:o. I am hoping to get the last 100 confetti stitches put into my 2014 Christmas cross stitch but have been a bit lazy of late, I think it's because I am down to the final few and I always lose enthusiasm then.

I stupidly (no idea where my brain was yesterday) got 2 takeaway tubs of spaghetti bolognaise out of the freezer for 2 of us when 1 tub would have been OK, so not only did we have spag bol last night....we also have it tonight!. Quite cross with myself as this would have done us a quick and easy dinner next week!

I might have to put some washing on today as well as DD1 is home from uni for the weekend and I know my washing machine and airers are going to be in constant use from Friday night, at least she does it herself so no extra work for me.

I have reserved 2 Nordic single duvet covers for my 2, they are reversible so could be used all through the year but I can't make up my mind whether to buy them or not. They are from Arg0s and they are already half price but it you buy 2 you get the 2nd one half price again, works out at £14.98 for both. I have been pondering it for hours now - how difficult can the decision be! :rotfl: I have a few more hours until the store closes so will give it some more thought.

    Wishing you all a lovely OS/NSD x

Another NSD and another OS day! Have done a machine load of washing and it's hanging on the line, not sure it'll dry completely but at least it'll have a bit of a blow. Will go on the airer overnight if it doesn't dry.

Have a very full dishwasher running at the moment and as soon as that is done I will get on with making the savoury mince for dinner tonight (my deep frying pan and slow cooker dish are both in the dishwasher so can't do until its finished). Will be too late to do the mince in the SC I think so will just use the deep frying pan. Some will be turned into cottage pie for tonight and the rest will get frozen for future use - hoping to get at least 2 lots into the freezer.

Time for a cuppa before I do anything else!

    Hi all,

Amandaatnumber7 welcome, good to see you here, hope you will enjoy this thread and find it useful.

Sorry for short post, feeling a bit sorry for myself today, not much sleep.

    OS plan:

Laundry which was not done yesterday
    Return book to library
Treat: cafe lunch as I need to get out of the house, am sure it won't break the bank. Max budget £5
Knitting at community centre (still for trying to stay out)
    Back home, cook dinner.

Mercifully no babysitting tonight so a very early night is planned, and I am sure poor DH will agree as he was also awake for a long time, with me restless and with the light on.

Have a good OS day all.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Afternoon everyone. It's really heartening to read about how well everyone is doing.

I hope you feel a bit better soon Caterina.

My day has been reasonably productive so far. Being off work has allowed me to catch up a bit, though the more I do the more I see that needs doing!

After a big frugal shop yesterday I've been batch cooking for the freezer. Thought I'd make good use of the oven when it was on and have done a piece of roast beef, huge chicken and a gammon joint. Enough meat to cover lots of dinners. Bolognaise and Dhall on the stove top.

I tackled a whole swede (my those things take some cutting, felt I needed a machete ). So have 4 tubs of mashed swede and carrot to freeze and some over for dinner tonight.

Onto my 4th load of washing but still have bedding and towels to catch up on.

Tidied out a wardrobe and drawers that had got disorganised and into a mess. Now I'll maybe be able to find non-laddered black tights in the morning.

Things are going to be tight this month. Since i have redundancy looming and my hubs is out of work, I've been brutal about putting aside a lot more savings than I can usually afford. It's "batten down the hatches" time!

My bank account looks scarily low, but there's enough to cover all direct debits etc. The rest has been cut up and put into tins for specific spending. It's a really old fashioned way of doing things but I think it will help me keep on track. Once the money in those tins is spent that's it.

Keep your chin up everyone - we can do it ;)

    Good evening,

Katkin thank you for your kind wishes. I hope that your and your DH's job situations improve, however it sounds like you have all the skills to batten down the hatches and be successful in riding this storm. Best wishes, we are all here for you, I am sure I speak for the other people here too.

I am feeling a bit better, decided to take the day off from any responsibilities. No laundry done. Had a go at DS to get off his a**e and paint the kitchen window, then start looking for a job.

Then I left home for the day. Walked to the library, returned the book and had a nice salad lunch at the cafe upstairs. Salad with hummus and cheese, polenta cake and cup of tea £5.50. Slightly over budget. Ho hum.

Then walked to the community centre where I joined the knitting class, £2 per session and includes tea. Had a very peaceful time and the other ladies are pleasant. I already knew a few from another knitting group.

Back home I helped DS to write a couple of job application letters, then concocted dinner from leftover hm curry, dal and brown rice, all in a pot and added water to turn into a thick soup. Topped with leftover boiled kale, stir fried with garlic to crisp it up a bit.

Yogurt with seeds and jam was the perfect pudding.

So tired, am already in bed, good night.

Me and my death bed rattle (very interesting cough) have had a busy day. The washing machine went on before the school run, then afterwards I went for blood tests to see if we can find out what I'm allergic to foodwise. Something that I'm eating - possibly eggs has been giving me a rash similar to the one I had when I was pregnant with the boy (I was allergic to my baby) for the last two years. For the last couple of months it's been affecting my breathing abilities here and there so the doctor is starting off with tests then possibly skin p r i c k tests.

I went to Asda to collect a present I ordered for the boy (cheapest place) then home again to hide it. Back out to collect a free code from the GAME shop for an item for one of the boy's computer games then nipped into M&S for a decent cotton sheet for his bed. He was in my bed last night so when he fell asleep I got in his bed but the sheet felt like sandpaper compared to mine so I have speculated the cost of a decent sheet on the chance to accumulate many nights of him in his own bed. Also bought a lamp for my side table next to my comfy chair. I had the money put away from when we moved house and I've been looking for the right thing for nearly six months. I had several coughing fits and felt a bit conspicuous but carried on anyway.

I made dinner myself tonight. Pasta with tomato and basil sauce and chopped up sausages from the local butcher mixed in. They're proper sausages - they make them on the premises. When you cook them, nothing oozes out and they taste lovely. Just a stove top dinner but it was what the boy requested and it was a million times better than last night's ready meal that we had because I was too ill to cook.

The washing is dry, I just need to iron it now. I meant to do some tonight but in the excitement of remembering to switch the tv on to watch my friend being Surprise surprised, I forgot. Never mind. Guess what one of tomorrow's job is?
  • Welcome Amandaatnumber7, I am a West Aussie too... This is a great thread, and a great board - I love that it reminds me of when I lived in the UK. I am on one of those aussie sites, and I thought the same as you, wasn't going to pay for a savings site. But I did end up winning a membership in a monthly competition, so that's a possibility.

    Hi fellow sandgroper

I had a win yesterday, Aussie Farmers a food delivery service that I used a few years ago called and said that I had a $13 credit!
So I ordered a fruit box from them which is usually $26 so I got it for half price  After my delivery next week I'll just cancel any ongoing orders, although its lovely fresh produce its expensive. Really need to find a good farmers market.

Some housework needs to be done today, nothings been done the last couple of days as DS3 is being particularly clingy.
DS2 wants to make a chocolate cake so thats on the cards for today as well.
Think I will make pizzas for tea, having the oven on will help the dough rise. And then there will leftovers for DS1 for school tomorrow (teenagers don't like sandwiches lol)

    Have a great Thursday
Love people use things. The opposite never works.

    Good morning,

Welcome to the thread skeeter93, I love it that we are becoming not only international here but intercontinental!

Today I absolutely must do some laundry and housework. I gave myself a day off but no excuses today, the cooker needs a good cleaning.

I still want to go out for a walk as it is not raining, it helps me feel better to be outdoors for a while every day.

Then this afternoon it is work with the boys. I was hoping in a NSD but remembered that I promised the little one that we would go to the toy store to get him his birthday present and both their Christmas presents. They go to New Zealand on 12th December until January so I might as well do the Christmas thing for them all at once and be done with it.

Then dinner and as DH does his martial arts tonight I shall have another early night with books and pot of tea in bed.

Have a good OS day all!

Good morning Caterina and friends. I am also hoping for a NSD today after yesterdays's spendy day. The lamp was the last thing needed for this house though, and the deal that I made with myself was that if I moved to a smaller more manageable property I would use the profit from the big house to furnish this one with decent items that would last. I think I coughed myself awake every hour last night so a day indoors is needed. I've done the school run, the washing machine was on before we left with bedding and some towels in, and I'm just sitting down with a coffee for 10 minutes before I start the ironing.

I have a pan of courgette soup on the go ready for lunch. Three sliced courgettes, three chopped onions, 3 veg stock cubes and a pint and half of water (water can be increased or decreased to personal preference). After the soup is cooked and cooled a bit tip in half a tub of Aldi low fat garlic and herb cream cheese and blend. Tastes great and can have bits and pieces added or taken away as you wish. I've added some extra garlic this morning to try and chase my cough and cold away. It makes enough for about three days lunches.

Dinner is something with chicken, possibly sweet and sour. I may have to fit in a small nana nap this afternoon too :D
