The house is cold
very cold
We have plaster drying all throughout downstairs so have windows cracked everywhere and the wind is howling through them. The only room to have heating is the front room which is the only room we can use in the daytime so is even more cluttered and messy than the rest of the house - I didn't realise this was possible but it is!!!
The lovely builders are going to dig the tumble dryer out of the shed for me as the washing pile has morphed into monstrous proportions and Frog's clothes on the airer are still damp after 2 daysI know this will trash the leccie bill but needs must now. Frog is down to 3 pairs of clean knickers and whilst she's doing fabulously at the potty training I feel it's tempting fate not to have clean knickers for her when she needs them!!
We've been to Mr T's this morning for the weekly shop and the afternoon will be a movie and sofa affair I think as the weather is nasty and I suspect all indoor soft play places will be heaving. I can't leave Tom alone to follow Frog around as she's still a little small to be unsupervised.
I hope MSE towers sort out the spam problem soon, it's turning my eyes inside out!!Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0 -

Spent the morning making up parcels for all my fleabay stuff and have now dispatched 3/4 of it :j Withdrew £90 for the emergency fund :T....and breathe.... Got lots more to sell thats just sitting around taking up space. Found a bag of new cricket balls left from OH's league work, they will never be used so they are going next. Now have one large empty box in the re-cycling and another will be emptied later. Excess knitting patterns Mum got me from Cs are gone too.
Used my £4 voucher in Mr T for fish so off to have some rather nice mackerel for tea.
Finally found somewhere in the house to photograph my crafty makes for my Fb selling page so thats this weeks job.Clearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
Good evening all,
The spam thing seems to have been resolved for the time being, but some sigs are still !!! , hope they can resolve that soon, too.
Icey77 you have my total sympathy at your household condition, having works done in a home is always stressful, but the kitchen particularly so. Good that you have decent lovely builders, it helps to have nice people in your home rather than grumpy lazy primadonnas (like I had)!
Ginny I keep reading of the bounty you are making by selling on fleabay, I am so in need to learn how to do it. When I think of how much stuff I have simply given away because I did not know how to sell it, all my lovely larger clothes after losing weight, CDs and DVDs, books, the list is endless. Must do something about it.
Anyway, good news, DS has been hard at work today and helped by DH tonight they have given the first coat of the new paint to the kitchen. For the first time since this pitiful saga has started, I can genuinely say I am starting liking the new kitchen! It helps that the arrangement is very similar to the old one and now the colour, too. But it is warmer, level, and we have a shower room on the scullery side, instead of just a rickety toilet cubicle. I might love it one day.
Babysitting and more a babysitting today so no news to update on that, same old same old...same tomorrow, minus the evening, so at least I can cook a decent dinner. Today I had ryvitas with cheese and a piece of oven baked breaded fish. Not ideal, too carby and no veg. Running from job to job, no time to cook. At least I had salad for lunch.
Good night. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Hello world!
A good day today, nice bits of kitchen work interspersed with, you guessed, babysitting jobs.
But the kitchen work bits have made all the difference, I moved a couple of metal mesh drawer units downstairs after DS finished painting the wall, gave them a good cleaning, they fit perfectly near the fridge, side by side. Then I had the idea of using the leftover piece of heavy worktop (thick oak briquette) to put on top of them, so they stay put, as they are quite light. The worktop piece does not quite cover them but I put the phone and radio in the gap, vases at the back and a basket of fruit. It looks really good. I am thinking of measuring and making little curtains to cover the fronts.
Dinner was gorgeous, spelt risotto with vege mince in tomato sauce. And HG squash in chilli and garlic. Yummy and very light.
NSD today, too, so a lovely OS day after all.
Good night. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Caterina - your kitchen certainly sounds like it is coming along nicely now. I can't Imagine the level or disruption you have had from the building and decorating work
Up early today as DH needs me to drop his car off for it's first MOT, I really hope it doesn't need anything doing and the only expense will be the £30 charge to get it through. Once the MOT is registered I can then get the road tax for it, although I now understand we are going 'paperless' with regards to tax discs.
While the car is in for it's MOT, I am going to pop across to !kea and make use of my family card which allows me a free cup of tea on a week day. I also need to pick up some tea light candles as these are the best ones I have found and seem to burn for the longest, nothing better than lighting a few candles once the 'sun' goes down, surprising how much difference it makes in terms of temperature as it seems to raise it in our living room by a degree or so.
My DD confirmed yesterday that she won't be home from Uni on her Birthday this year as her Boyfriend wants to take her somewhere nice....where did all the years go from birth to such independence! My step Dad has very kindly offered to take us all out the following weekend and is paying for us all which will be lovely as him and my Brother miss her as much as we do. Youngest DD is painfully shy and has been talking about going to Uni next year but having had further conversations this week with her, it's not something she thinks she could manage, not because of the grades but because she doesn't want to leave home so we are going to investigate other opportunities available to her once she finishes her A levels. I feel so sorry for the children today, they seem to be under so much pressure to go to Uni. We have told her we are and will continue to be incredibly proud of her no matter what she chooses and that all we ask is that she does something she enjoys (she wants to investigate the possibility of becoming a Veterinary Nurse).
We have had a 'mini' breakthrough with youngest, because she is so shy she won't go into shops/Dr's/banks etc on her own or use her bank card but this week she went out with friends to the cinema and they ended up in Nandos afterwards (as they all seem to do nowadays) and sent me a text telling me she had used the cash machine to withdraw some money, she was so happy about itsmall steps but we are getting there gradually.
Wishing you all an OS/NSD0 -
Your daughter could try contacting the Open University. She would be able to study at home, courses usually have classes once a week or once a month and the foundation level courses all have a summer school, which is a week away at a university working very hard. I got my degree through it when I was 54. (it took me from 1984 to 2008 due to health problems) Some of the people I met on various courses were doing 2 or 3 courses a year - you need 6 for a basic degree and 7 for an honours. They were all friendly and helpful too. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone.

Good morning,
MOS crossing fingers for your MOT, hope it all goes well. Re. your younger DD, I agree, what's this fixation with University at all costs, there are so many opportunities out there now for people with skills rather than pieces of paper. Sadly there are many unemployed graduates about. I hope she finds her right path, she will be fine with your loving support.
Ailz95 well done on getting your degree, it takes a lot of tenacity and hard work, especially if you do it while running a family and working. I started (part time while working) but had to let it go because I just did not have the time and - to be honest - the inclination to work all hours. Not having a degree did not stop me from having a decent career in public service, then I went self employed and all was well there too. But sometimes I wonder what if...
Today is a busy day, it was my last morning babysitting and I have been paid (very generously, I am very happy) and she also gave me a big bunch of flowers. They will go well in the kitchen.
Then I am seeing a friend who has a pair of jeans that she no longer needs due to weight loss and might fit me - cross fingers for me, it is a size 14, touch and go! Then a spot of food shopping while I am there as she lives near a very nice market. Tomatoes, greens, leeks, large bunches of herbs are all on the cards.
I might go to do a mystery shop too, but only if I have enough time.
The charity shop people have been and picked up a lot of furniture we were giving away, so there is the living room to clean and tidy. Bit by bit the house will finally get back to normal.
Then dinner to be cooked and evening babysitting, but that one is easy, just round the corner and less than two hours, the girls go to bed without a problem and all I have to do is go and switch off the light when they are done reading. Then I sit and read or watch TV.
Have a good OS day all. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Thank you Ailz95, I will have a look at the OU and see what courses they have available.
Eldest DD has gone to The Royal Veterinary College to train to be a vet and she absolutely loves the life but it's not for everyone.
Car passed it's MOT so only £30 paid :j I did have to complain though as they promised me the car would be back by 11am and didn't get back until 12.40 so I have managed to get a free valet for the inconvenience caused, DH will be happy as he won't have to do it
I couldn't believe the price of a breakfast in IKEA, 6 items for £2.25 or with my Friends card £1.50, at that price it would have been rude to turn it down wouldn't it? :rotfl:
I am sitting here freezing at the moment due to finding a flea on my dog a couple of days ago. I bought flea products from the vets but apparently they aren't working very well this year due to the weather being perfect for fleas (didn't know there was such a thing as flea weather) so it meant I had to order some Indorex as I can't stand the thought of even 1 of the little blighters living with me. The product is quite toxic and the place has to be well ventilated so patio doors open, back door open, dogs sent to the garden with strict instructions not to come back in, cats shut in the garage (as they don't pay any attention to me) and fish tank cling filmed, taped and a towel put over it! The house has been airing for just over an hour so might shut the doors in half an hour or so as any longer and I will be chilled through.
Off to make a nice hot cuppa I think! Hope you are all having a good day.0
