Grandmasam - oh my goodness those shoes are just gorgeous! I'm not a shoe person - I just wear what's comfy and practical but oh I'd love those."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0

Cranky of course now you have quiet times your mind will wander but
you had to do what was best for you and the hosue elf. Is he settled? make the most of your days and be good to yourself.
He's very happy thank you Ginny, he absolutely loves his new school and is waiting by the door every morning asking to go early instead of me having to cajole him like I did with the old one. He has his first birthday party from his new friends to attend tomorrow. We still have a spare room by the way0 -
Good evening,
Grandmasam I am sorry you are estranged from your DD, thank you for your empathy and kind words. I am also virtually estranged from my DM so it feels a bit like a generational curse. Terribly sad. I love both (DD and DM) from all my heart but there are limits to what I can take from them. On a happier note, great shoes, good for you for treating yourself!
Update:
DH, DS and I have started turning the kitchen into a real living space. Got rid of dust sheets from floor and counters, started bringing stuff down, introducing little personal touches. It is beginning to look just like a kitchen and even if so much to do still (because of the stupid builders), it is looking real. Am feeling much better about it, and the thought that the stupids are never setting foot in it again makes my heart sing. We will finish what we can and what we cannot will have to be finished by real professional builders, unlike this Mickey Mouse lot!
DH's cousin is in town with a colleague of his, yesterday they invited us out for Chinese food, so tonight we invited them. No cooking yet as too much still to sort out, but now we have a table and chairs. We got fish and chips, lots of beer and Prosecco and a box of chocolate truffles. Bargainous with a marks £5 off voucher but it still blew the budget out completely. This was our first meal in the new kitchen and it felt really good.
Tomorrow is another budget day, but today it had to be done.
Good night. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Good morning,
After yesterday's blow the budget evening meal I decided to drop the GC for this month. It was too much, kitchen dragging on and the dreadfulness of DD's situation meant we need to remove as much stress from our lives as possible. It also meant that having a few celebratory and therapeutic treats would not have fitted in a tight (for us) budget.
Lesson learnt, I posted my reflections on the GC thread so won't be repeating myself here.
Still OS, still going to be careful and spend wisely, but allowing flexibility in my life plan and being gentle to myself and family members.
Today's plan:
DH just brought me a nice egg fry up for breakfast, the first meal cooked on the new cooker!
At 10 my friend will pick me up to go and see a freebie premiere film, then back home and keeping working on the kitchen, to repossess it and reclaim it from the creepy builders.
Possibly a NSD other than the planned and budgeted spend of my friendly Italian builder, who is taking advantage of scaffolding still up outside to paint and clean my top windows, together with DH. This guy has been a blessing and a salvation in this whole kitchen mess. Because of him, thinking about it, today won't be a grocery NSD as on my way back I shall stop to the shop and get him a nice treat, cake or something, to thank him for working so hard, on a Sunday, to help us.
Have a good OS day. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Thanks for the kind words Caterina. Feeling more positive having spent the money on the shoes, and not guilty!
Cleaned out the fridge this morning and threw away the contents of a couple of things that were lurking in the bottom drawer, emptied the remains of some very flat cider down the sink as it smelt 'off'. Washing on the line and the sheet and towels are whizzing round the washing machine for the second load to go on the line.
Gave the living room a really good clean and removed the dust bunnies, consisting mainly of hound hair, that had secreted away under the sofa, and used the polish on the furniture instead of frantically spraying in the air before I open the door.
Thats my confession for the day [year!]

Good evening, a quick update as very sleepy.
Good day, kitchen progress, lots more stuff in counters and cupboards. Lots to so still but it looks more my old kitchen.02! Feeling better.
Also better because I had second hand news of DD, she called her brother, is ok, living with some sound and honest people whom I have known for over 20 years, working the land. DS said she sounded ok. Thanks God.
Off to Scotland tomorrow so will say bye now, will update on my return on Friday.
Stay OS!

Having a couple of days off as Oh is spending a day or two with a friend helping advise him on some building plans - unpaid but gets us a meal at his restaurant in the future. Have a lot to acheive in the next 2 days, greenhouse to clean out and set up for overwintering plants. Pot outdoor geraniums and bring the smaller ones in. Post parcels, and fleabay stuff and do shopping - Im worn out already!:DClearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
Good morning,
Thank you Ginny!
Woke up in the middle of the night then back to sleep (dreamt I went lambing with DH, someone picked up a stick of mistletoe and gave me a kiss and DH got jealous LOL, what a weird, funny dream!).
I got to get up and sort out what to take with me, it is far up North Scotland where we are going so it will be rather chilly. And we absolutely decided to not take the iPad so we won't be online.
Goodbye for a few days then, stay OS, we will do our best to do the same! xFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
