Rafal,
Have you not considered the fact that there are millions of people in this country who were born here, worked as hard if not harder than you and yet because they don't live in a Council house they do not get to buy a house with a massive discount.Don't consider yourself special Rafal , your not. Your just an average person but it seems you consider us Brits lazy but from my experience any EU national can be as lazy if not worse. You have been here for 10 years and yet your in debt so you haven't been that successful have you.
I don't blame you Rafal for coming here and buying a Council house for a huge discount .I blame the idiots in the Government for allowing Council Houses to be sold off to anyone. Council Houses are a valuable commodity that should be kept.
Please don't claim that you are doing it for any reason other than greed because you are not. You are as greedy as the next Council tenant who claims the RTB.
Leveller who is more of a burden on society: Someone who has lived here and worked for 10 years and looking to live and work here for more years to come, or someone who has lived here for 10 years and spent most of them on benefits because they are bone idol?
So anyone who owes money in this country has not been that successful? Well that rules out everyone with a mortgage, many with a car and quite a few more who use credit cards.
By all means criticise the politicians for what they do or do not do but it is so unfair to blame those who use the system within the rules.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -

RTA is set at the full market value of a property with no discount linked to the time served on the tenancy.Even where Council Housing stock has been taken over by Housing Associations the tenants retain the RTB.
Apologies i should have been more in depth
Many tenants who actually rent through a HA assume that it is the council. This is particularly so when a council has sold off its housing stock.
Exisiting tenants pre take over will retain RTB under certain circumstances. Not all of the tenants who have been with us since the days of the council are eligible to buy their property. However, i work within a rural community with many different LLPs in place so this may differ in cities.£2 Savers Club #156!

Bob , when I look at my kids and see that the struggle to have a roof over their heads in adult life will be 10x harder than us I will shout from the roof tops at a system that is so wrong. The politicians are to blame but equelly to blame are people like Rafal. Their greed is part of the problem so they will get no sympathy from me.Leveller who is more of a burden on society: Someone who has lived here and worked for 10 years and looking to live and work here for more years to come, or someone who has lived here for 10 years and spent most of them on benefits because they are bone idol?
If you re read my posts Bob you will see that I don't consider Rafal any different from anyone who was born here and has worked hard and paid into the system. I have a huge problem with selling of a valuable Social resource and even worse with a huge discount. So any EU citizen living/working here who buys under the RTB and then sells after 3years and goes back to their own country will have been a net contributor?.
Fair point with this criticism. My post was in reply to Rafals' who considers himeslf "special" because he works hard.I merely pointed out that millions of people in the UK work hard.So anyone who owes money in this country has not been that successful? Well that rules out everyone with a mortgage, many with a car and quite a few more who use credit cards.
Having said that in 10 years I would hope that someone would save up to buy a car etc rather than the never never. Guess I'm old school in that apart from a mortgage If I havent got the money for something I don't buy it.By all means criticise the politicians for what they do or do not do but it is so unfair to blame those who use the system within the rules.
Bob,
Is the system across the EU fair?. Can my kids go to Rafals' home country and buy a Council house with a huge discount?. My point is they can't, so not only are they at a dis-advantage living here they would be if they emmigrated. This is just another example of why the UK gets shafted by the EU.It will be interesting to see how many EU citizens take up the RTB and go back home after 5-10 years, so in effect asset stripping. I would imagine you could buy a huge house for £180k in most parts fo the EU.
All Social Housing should be kept as such and not sold off unless all of the money is invested in building new Social Housing.0 -
Leveller but tell me did your or your kids ever tried to apply for council property?Problem is many of us never even applied for a council flat/house.I know is getting harder to get one these days but in many places its possible. When I moved to UK I get on council waiting list with my GIRLFRIEND that days, with no kids, etc.unless people earn decent money getting house is possible, but it takes timeLoan £3450 left

Your not allocated a Council House unless you apply on the Housing List Rafal and even then, unless you had/have children the chances of being successful are very slim.Leveller but tell me did your or your kids ever tried to apply for council property?Problem is many of us never even applied for a council flat/house.I know is getting harder to get one these days but in many places its possible. When I moved to UK I get on council waiting list with my GIRLFRIEND that days, with no kids, etc.unless people earn decent money getting house is possible, but it takes time
With Housing Associations, particularly in rural areas it can be different due to planners stipulating that new build Social Housing tenants must have a "historic tie" to the village or town.0 -

I do not know. But I suspect you are right. The privatisation of social housing does happen in other parts of the EU but the method is often to sell the social housing to a private company or to a housing association.
All Social Housing should be kept as such and not sold off unless all of the money is invested in building new Social Housing.
I agree, in fact I would go even further and say that they should not be sold at all.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -
Good morning everyone, ina few words:In my country government help and council housing almost not exist, and not for EU but for everyone,so government is stupid everywhere not only here.Anyway that is offtopic discusion, any more ideas to my questions, maybe someone who gone through RTB process can advice? What is overall cost of buying house, getting mortgage etc?Loan £3450 left

Best to let the taxpayers do up your pad if it needs work before taking up any rtb optionNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0

Your kids can go to my home country and get free housing, heath care, EBT, and a phone. I think you can get a free golf cart too.leveller2911 wrote: »Bob , when I look at my kids and see that the struggle to have a roof over their heads in adult life will be 10x harder than us I will shout from the roof tops at a system that is so wrong.
