Do you regularly have problems with sending and receiving texts and calls?

Okay, I'm not sure if my problems are that regular as I don't use my mobile all that much but, for example:

I first noticed it a few months ago when I tried to send a text and I kept getting message failures for no apparent reason

A few weeks later I became aware that anyone trying to call me was getting put straight through to voicemail. I tried ringing my mobile from my landline and was put straight through to voicemail despite the mobile showing that it had reception

Since then, one evening I suddenly got about 5 (different) texts from a friend all showing as having been sent at that same exact time but obviously actually all sent at different times during the day

Today I couldn't send a text, tried ringing my mobile from my landline and it was going through to voicemail, then all of a sudden it was working and I received a text from a friend suggesting meeting up last night (!) and a voicemail from a call 24 hours earlier (when my phone was on!) asking me to call back a company who will now be closed for the weekend!

I'm on Virgin. Firstly, will this definitely be a fault with Virgin rather than with my actual phone? If so, are all phone providers that bad or can anyone recommend any that have a decent service?

Btw, during the past 24 hours I have been at various different locations, around a busy city centre where lots of other people seem to get reception so it's not because I'm in some remote location!

I tell people that modern phones are like computers, They like a reboot to clear the memory and refresh themselves.

You dont need to do it daily but once or twice a week switch it off and back on again.

Can you make outgoing calls when its sending calls to voicemail?

My partner had exactly the same problem yesterday. It was a real disaster. We were supposed to meet, and he could not get through to me - sending loads of texts/making calls to my phone. I, on the other hand, was sending him texts he was not getting and got put through to his voicemail each time I called. It ended up with me having to set out on a 2h walk home on foot (he had my oyster and card), and with him being about to call the police and report me as missing. Luckily, he thought of rebooting his phone and so he eventually got through to me.

Thanks for the advice, forgotmyname, I wish we'd known this earlier. Needless to say, now I have a stronger aversion to smartphones than I did before (it was substantial to begin with - I use one of these old 'burner' phones). We blamed Three for this, but it looks like it was the phone and not the network.

The current uptime on my work phone (Galaxy S2) is 4092 hours, 48mins, and 53 seconds without any issues.

Quiet Spark - I've got a Galaxy S2 Mini but have been having these problems. I'll stop cursing Virgin if it's not their fault!

forgotmyname - After not being able to send a text today and calls to my mobile going to voicemail, I then tried making a call from my mobile to my landline - That went through fine and just after that the text and voicemail from yesterday came through - so either it coincidentally started working at that time or making a call *from* my mobile sorted it out!

Actually, the first time I had this problem and couldn't send a text to someone, I rang their landline and that went through fine as well!

Samsung never made a mini version of the S2, it's either the S3 or the S4 you have.
DS1 has a full fat S4 and DS2 has the full fat S3, and trust me when I say I would be the first to know if they were having problems as they NEVER put the things down.

What's the signal strength like when you have these issues, and do these issues occur in one place only or when you are out and about in different areas?

Quiet Spark - Sorry, it's actually "Samsung Galaxy Mini 2".

I've had problems in different areas and when the signal has been showing as okay on the phone. Hopefully, the "turning it off and turning back on again" thing will work as well as it works with computers!
