Phone Battery running down - something updating and running down?

Yes, perhaps 4.2... as is used on the Samsung Galaxy SII? (Hence the relevance to this thread)Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
A: It goes without saying that this site's about MoneySaving.
Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.0 -
Your screenshots look remarkably similar to Android 2.3.5 that I have on my old San Francisco, maybe yours isn't quite as old as that but looking at the screenshots I suspect it isn't far off. The relevance is that phones (and Android) have moved on much since then and uninstalling Google Play services generally isn't an option and frankly, it's unlikely to fix the issue here even if it could be accomplished.0

Ah, my apologies. I'd seen someone with an S2 post about this issue a couple of days ago elsewhere that fixed it by uninstalling/reinstalling Google Play Services and thought I'd share it. I imagine your solution is far more likely to work.
Edit: have you edited your solution out of your posts? For some reason I can't see it.Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?

Edit: If you're going to do an edit, make sure that you leave it long enough to appear like a genuine 'edit' AFTER the event.
Also:-Just go into the App Manager and uninstall the updates for the Google Play services, restart, let them update, restart.

I can't see your point. What's the minimum waiting period before I'm allowed to go back and edit my posts? I've checked the rules and can't see anything about needing to wait. What's the 12 hours bit about?Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?

Edit: And if you wait a little, it really does look like you searched for the other posts before you edited rather than just added an 'Edit' to make it appear like you looked.... (Clue: See below)0 -
Oh, for some reason you thought those phone screenshots were from my phone? I see where your assumption lead you astray now. No, those were just Internet-sourced screenies to point out the right button.
I really wouldn't worry about your 4.2/4.4 mistake if I were you. So you missed the fact that the topic's about a Galaxy SII running 4.2, and now you're demanding that everyone (including people who are competent at reading) should wait a minimum time before editing their posts, and you're looking at clock times in screen grabs as proof of... (actually, what would it have proved? Apart from anything else, I'm in the Perth, Australia timezone so my clock wouldn't match yours anyway!), simply to obfuscate that you don't have a leg to stand on.
Please do feel free to post something helpful, but remember: it's a Galaxy SII, so it's likely running Android 4.2.Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?

I find modern phones and andriod apps very obfuscating.0

Anyway, back to the OP..
Install BetterBatteryStats (free on XDA), this will tell you exactly what is using the battery up.Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it0 -
Hi
Many thanks for the replies.
Before I saw these just now, earlier today I couldn't even make a phone call on the phone - it was just hanging. Also people trying to call me were going straight through to answerphone.
I couldn't get anything to work properly/quickly on the phone even after switching off and on and the strange circular "updating" symbol has been a permanent feature, also Wi-fi permanently switched on, even after I switch it off.
After googling I found a suggestion to turn off something to do with "My Location", use wireless networks to find my location. Since turning that off the circular symbol has diseappeared and wi-fi has remained off.... so fingers crossed!
However I did check the battery stats and on my phone this seems useless - it doesn't tell me anything beyond:
30m 8s on battery
Android OS - 86%
Display - 10%
Cell standby - 3%
Phone idle - 2%
Should it be more detailed than this? I will try to install the "BetterBatteryStats" programme that has been suggested above.
Also can anyone help re general battery life - this is the original battery and runs down very quickly - not sure if it was damaged as I took it travelling and it was plugged into a generator at a place where there was no electricity, so not sure if it had a power surge or something or it is just old age.
I did buy a replacement from ebay, which was supposed to be a manufacturer's original but this ran down even faster - is the problem my phone in some way or the batteries I have?
Many thx for any advice on this as the constant loss of power is very frustrating.0
