My last few bills have been estimated, just took a reading and sent it in on the BG app and it's less than last months estimate so BG think I have used 99754 units of electric, will I have to ring them and sort this out or will the computer sort it out sometime this year? I normally only use about £10 a week.

It is best to wait until tomorrow and phone them to get the full picture.

Yeah I guess, not going to enjoy that phone call. Hope it's on one of their scripts.

So why wait until after you have had several estimated readings before phoning in with an actual reading?

I can't say specifically with regards the BG app, but for all suppliers I have used and input readings online, if the new reading was not acceptable for any reason (and being less than the previous estimated one was a reason on more than one occassion) then the online facility would not accept the new reading and would return an error message asking tou to call them.

Does the BG app give any form of confirmation message that you have successfully submitted a reading? If so, and you received one, then I would take that as it was accepted and will be included in calculating your next bill. :)

Why not? Whenever I have phoned a suppliere because a meter reading was not accepted online because it was less than a previosly estimated reading used for billing (or even on occassions not high enough as the computer would expect based on the previously estimated reading used), then the operator would just over-ride the computer and input the meter reading provided.

the reading was accepted, the app accepted it and I also received an email to say it was received.

all sorted, I rang, the guy said he would have to override the previous readings to get the computer to accept the lower reading, I tried asking what would have happened if I had not rang, would they have billed me for the 99754 units, he said it would have got sorted when the next meter reader came round, so still not sure if I would have been billed for those units in the mean time, but I left it as I don't think he knew the answer.

Hopefully you'll check your bills and readings a bit more often and make sure you don't accept bills based on estimated readings - make sure they are corrected
