Frustrated with internet connection

Hi there
I live with my grandparents and at home, there is a shoddy (to put it lightly) internet connection. Average speed is 1.5mbps to 2mbps. Today I tested it. It's 0.54mbps. There is also the fact of limit of 50gb!
The provider is Supanet (been with the same provider for a while) and the contract runs out next year. However, can this be cancelled and also who would you recommend for fast internet with unlimited use?
Please help....

Can they get fibre?:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

No idea. I assume so since Virgin send letters0
-
Also, please no BT stuff..they are unreliable0

put their postcode in the broadband checker @ samknows.com and let us know what the options are.
BT ADSL, BT FTTC or x LLU will be possible options if virgin are unavailable.
Unless it is an old connection still running on adsl (rather than ADSL2) it is likely they are a long way from the exchange and it is likely due to the length of their phone line.
Unless you are in a virgin area you will be stuck with BT for some of the infrastructure (i.e. phoneline to exchange)
It can be cancelled but will usually cost a lot to break that contract.0 -

Your only option then is Virgin as anything else would be running on the BT network.
You could go wireless with a mobile network if the 4G speeds are high enough and you can take the service with you as it's not a fixed line connection.:footie:

These are the options
BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
BT Wholesale WBC (21CN)
BT Wholesale SDSL
BT FTTC
AOL LLU
O2 / Be LLU
Bulldog LLU
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
Tiscali LLU
Zen LLU
Virgin Media (Cable)0 -
HappyMJ that sounds like an idea with the mobile network. Do you mean a dongle type thing?0

Well you have loads of options, the BT ADSL page should like an estimate speed for ADSl 2+ connections. The BT FTTC page will tell you what Fibre you can get etc etc
Everyone except Virgin uses at least some of the BT Infrastructure.0 -
OK. I mean no internet through them but infrastructure through them is ok.0
-
If it was me i'd look at the virgin cable connection or BT/llu xdsl providers for Fibre (FTTC)
BT are pretty good these days in my experience.
Alternatively if it says a good speed on the ADSL page, speak to supanet to switch you to ADSl2+0
