I can understand people being unhappy with the proposals, but maintaining the status quo isn't a realistic option. It's very easy to say what isn't acceptable but what alternative proposals would opponents put forward?
  • Nobody wants to maintain the status quo but the proposals take away peoples' fixed weeks that some have paid a lot of money for and given them points that are almost unsellable and that can only be used in Macdonald's resorts. Asking people for 4 x maintenance fees to get out of their contracts is just plain greedy and immoral. Proposals and ideas are being discussed on the facebook forums.

"Points are unsellable", Weeks can't be given away either!

I'm one of those who paid a lot of money for my weeks and, if this proposal is successfully challenged, will be stuck with maintenance fees in perpetuity (or for 80 years at least which is much the same).
The original suggestion was for people to agree to move to another block (at Plas Talgarth at least), but it only took 1 person to refuse for the whole scheme to fail.
I have the papers on my desk now and will be signing them to get out of the system. Do I like having to pay to get out? No, of course I don't but I like the only realistic current alternative even less.
  • No, you won't necessarily be stuck with in perpetuity. Its going through the EU at the moment to end all in perpetuity contracts plus nobody is saying that the status quo will remain in place, things will have to change. Have a look at the FB group, not saying don't exit if that's what you want to do but there are a lot of people fighting the proposals.

Keitht53. You will still have to pay management fees on your points. It will probably be pro rata to number of points allocated.
  • I think Keith53 is intending to pay the exit fee of 4 x maintenance fees per week owned. There are many people who feel this is the only way out and I understand this but MRL have rushed this through and left many confused and upset owners in its wake.

Why do people think that they HAVE to pay the maintenance fees if they have no intention of using their timeshare............JUST STOP PAYING............Thousands have......nobody has been taken to court.................If you know better then show me......i wont hold my breath.

I love the way people think they are "Owners",even in the previous posts the word "owners" is used.....You must realise YOU OWN NOTHING,and should you want to give "Nothing" away it could cost you up to £4000.......Read this slowly....PAY NOTHING,WALK AWAY,DONT LOOK BACK,........Whatever you do DONT THROW GOOD MONEY AFTER BAD............WRITE YOUR MONEY OFF,you will never see it again..............You know this is true but you try to convince yourself it is not......most of the money paid for timeshares is converted into white powder and snorted up someones nose....read the crimeshare pages....if they have not been removed again by these multi-million pound timeshare con-men.

  • Macdonalds may be a rubbish at running timeshare resorts but I'd not accuse them of being drug runners! That's ridiculous!

People do own - they own the rights in perpetuity to use the week they have paid for (and pay maintenance fees for) in their chosen apartment and resort. MRL have changed all that with their actions. I won't get into an argument over the rights and wrongs of it all, so will leave it there - unless you own a timeshare (as we used to do) you can't understand how much these weeks mean to people

MRL have taken people to court for non payment of maintenance fees and have made it very clear in the past that they will continue to do so. You may well get away with simply stopping paying if you own on the Costas or in the Canaries but I wouldn't recommend the strategy if you own in the UK.
