Not sure if this is relevant here but will try for starters.

Can you set up an amazon.com account in the UK. I want one because I want to buy stuff for my son who lives in the US and have it delivered there. This is proving tricky with .uk . I could use his US address for deliveries but of course it would have to be linked to my uk credit card.

I think you should just be able to login with your UK details. I bought a lot from Amazon.com before I ever bought anything from Amazon.co.uk. I have never set up a UK account but just used my US Login. I only had to set up a new account for purchases from Amazon Japan.

As above, I've just tested the .com site using the details from my account that was setup on the .co.uk site and made it all the way to the end of the transaction without any issues

Yes, you can, no problems. I had a gift voucher valid only on Amazon US, registered there, used the voucher eventually for a purchase.
Some CCs will allow alternative delivery addresses, others won't.

I have used my .co.uk account to make purchases from the .de site and had them sent in the UK and bought stuff of the .com site and had it sent to family in the states.

It worked fine every time and the only extra step I had to follow was to confirm the CC number.

I have an Amazon.com account with 4 different addresses registered on there (2 hotels that I visit on a regular basis and 2 private addresses of people that I work in other countries) and have never once had a problem with getting stuff delivered.

Yup you can. i've an Amazon UK and US accounts.

Only sticking point is that voucher codes CAN'T be transferred between accounts!
So if you get a £20 gift token bought on Amazon UK it won't be accepted on the Amazon US site and vice versa.

Shipping can be a pain though. (buying on the US site to be shipped to the UK can take ages and cost the same as ordering from the UK once import/shipping costs taken into account.)
