My wife's current deal expires in 4 weeks time (Talkmobile) so she phoned today to cancel (as of the end date) before getting charged far more per month.

She was offered a new deal, basically an iPhone 4, with 500 mins, 5000 texts and 500MB of data

Normally she just gets a new phone, and goes through Quidco or Topcashback and gets the best deal.

Is the deal offered OK ?

Or are there better deals available.

She is actually using an old iPhone at present (handed down by daughter) so likes them now.

I am sorry, it was for the 4S

My wife just told me the deal, as the 4, but she had actually written down the full details, ie 4S

question is also, how long will her new contract be? 12 months? then not a bad deal.

more than 12 months?! worth having a look on what else is available.

and, yes as @corf999 says, the iPhone 4 is too old

I'm glad you came back and said it was a 4S. Still a very good phone ... Apple are still keeping it upto date and probably will for a little while longer (they're still updating the 4).

The main limitation is the screen size ... but you may not want anything bigger. Battery life will be better than most android handsets.

I believe apple have just stopped support for the iPhone 4. So no upgrades. Which means the 4s will stop being supported next year. So for the last year of her contract your wife will have a phone that has no support. That in itself isn't the issue. If a few months after the next iOS release a lot of apps will stop working on the older iOS and you'll get an error telling you you need the newer iOS for that app.

If this won't be an issue then fine. But given the 4s is coming up on three years old I'd not want to sign a new contract with a 3 year old handset.
