Tried painting the house and totally ruined the walls!

I started decorating my house and after the second coat of trade matt emulsion the paint on the walls looks very patchy.
The house is only 6 years old so before I started decorating I lightly sanded the walls down and then washed all walls with a sugar soap solution.
I am using a roller with hamilton perfection medium pile roller sleeves and no nonsense trade matt emulsion (not diluted with water).
After examining the patches that appear to be rough I noticed that if I place a flat object against the wall (e.g. a ruler) I can see that the wall is not perfectly straight. There are parts that are slightly dented and uneven by 1 or 2 millimetres across a couple of inches. It appears that the roller sleeve doesn't come in close contact with those parts of the wall and the paint looks patchy and not smooth. From a close look the surface of the walls look like the surface of the moon! Loads of patches of many tiny craters. As this is the first time I decided to decorate a house I'm not an expert by any means but read a lot online before starting to do the work. I need some recommendations as to how can this be remedied.
I wish I could post pictures so that I could show you the result...

Maybe try using a paintbrush....it takes longer...but I never use rollers not even for ceilings.0

It's a 3 story house and it feels like it will take forever if I have to paint it with a brush! I should be able to somehow get a good result from painting with a roller... I do like the finish of the roller I just don't know where it went so wrong and what I must do to fix it.0

Chances are it is the paint and not the method you are using to apply it.0

Is it cheap paint? We bought B & Q for our lads room. Very patchy. Refunded and bought Dulux. Fine nw.Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies0

What was on the walls before your coats of paint?
Also the lighting can make a difference, you get shadows if the light is right and the are bumps.0 -
Are you using silk emulsion? This will show off imperfections more than matt.
Is it a lighter colour, trying to cover a darker cover? This will take more coats.
Try a matt finish, branded, or own lable but NOT trade or economy range.
Lightly sand over what you've done so far and try it with 2-3 coats

... people say painting's easy ... it's not is it.... it's tiresome, tedious and annoying
Good luck0 -
I've used No Nonsense Trade Contract Matt White. It costs around £18 for 10lt from screwfix and has a few really nice reviews that's why i bought it.
I think the wall was previously painted with a matt emulsion but I'm not so sure as I never had to figure out what sort of paint was used to paint a wall! I lightly sanded the wall, washed it with a sugar soap solution and put 2 coats of trade contract matt paint on it. As I mentioned before it now looks rubbish and it would be great if there's a magic way to correct it without having to re-sand the walls...
I totally agree with PasturesNew!0 -
you are using a reasonable quality roller and sleeve , so maybe you'd get better results using them with a roller pole0
