Have you spoken to your neighbours about their noise?

If not, I suggest you do as you may find that they are completely unaware of how it is effecting your lives

If this does not work then speak to your other neighbours and see if they have the same problem, you may find that if a collective of you complain it may hold more in the eyes of the council etc

You are been told by people to ring THE COUNCIL it is their problem not the police.

No , no one on here DID advise me to ring the police. MY 'local community police officer' TOLD me to ring them. Satisfied ???? Given you dont know all the circumstances , you are quick to judge aren't you ?
  • Is there anything you can do about neighbours that row at 3am/4am? God know how they do it, i'm not even awake enough to string a coherent sentance together!

i guess that this is also a way that ASBOs can be useful if it really doesn't stop. also see if mroe of your neighbours can complain to the council too - makes them much more likely to solve a problem if they have lots of people complaining!

While I have every sympathy with those suffering from noisy neighbours, did anyone else hear the story about the lady whose neighbours made a complaint to Environmental Health because the birdsong in her garden was too loud? I am not making this up, I know you shouldn't believe everything you read in The Sun but I can't find it on the BBC's website, although I heard it on the Today programme.

Some councils DO have an out of hours line for noise nuisance.

Ours certainly does (Edinburgh) and when I lived in Leeds they did too, although they didn't send anyone out after 4am. They did contact the tenant's landlord who sent a very apologetic letter and told me to inform him/her if it happened again.

The Edinburgh ones are very helpful, you go through the police call centre (they like to know if they are going to need a police presence) and you don't feel like you're wasting their time, which I was worried about. Fortunately/unfortunately the noise stopped before they could come round, but again the police call centre were very helpful when I rang to see if they could get a message to the noise patrol officers to tell them not to bother. They still kept a record of the case should it happen again. And hopefully it won't before we move at the end of August!
