Noisey neighbours

I know there is a cut off time of 11pm for noise, but is there anything that can be done for daytime ? I mean loud music going all day , can even hear it over sound of tv with windows closed ? Just wondered if there was anything could be done.

you should be able to speak to someone at the council - we had a problem with someone's alarm going off all the time. someone from the council 'had words'. it would probably help if more than one neighbour reported them though. i think i spoke to someone in environmental health - if that's not right then they should be able to tell you who is the right person to speak to!

You can complain about nusiance noise.

Keep a diary and jot down the times when the music is causing a disturbance. Once you have a few weeks worth of diary, copy it to the local council environmental department and they should be able to help.

Some people used to live out the back of us and used to open the window and play Daddy Cool by Boney M at full blast over and over again, but the council sorted it out.
Here I go again on my own....

I had exactly the same problem,i had neighbours from hell. Loud music, noisy kids, barking dogs, dogs messing in my garden, once i caught the fella peeing over the fence and onto my kids slide!
I spoke to them, the council and the housing association i kept noise diaries and even phoned the police when things got really bad.
I do understand how this can get you down and take over your life i was that desperate i even went to my local councillor.
They no longer live next door, did the police, council or housing association throw them out for causing hassle in our area? NO they never, they fell behind on the rent and then got thrown out!!
So its quiet ok to be noisy and be a complete pain in the a*s* as long as your rents up to date as far as i can make out.
When it comes down to it the authorities dont want to know, where i live in Slough this is certainly the case,i only hope you have better luck.If the authorities dont help you in the correct way and you have followed the correct complaints procedure you could always take action via court yourself,my local citizens advice were really helpful.
Hope things work out for you in the end.

    Hi kickstart
This what a workmate done to his noisy neighbours
He had asked them politly to turn the music down during the day as he
was working nights for a month, they just ignored him. So here is what he
did ,he set his tape recorder up to record the noise they were making.
He then put the speakers to face the wall set the timer to come at 1pm
while he was at work. needless to say it soon stoped

  • Contact the environmental department as previously stated.

It takes time (very, very frustrating) to sort out - years for us - but the council now have the power to take individuals to court to seek an injunction to prevent them from playing loud music.

The maximum noise level is set at a lower level past a certain time (10 or 11pm), but there is also a day level too, so yes something can be done.

It must be frustrating for you and my sympathies are with you.
  • Hiya, just thought i'd let you know, i have a lot of experience of noisey neighbours. if you look at your local council's website (or try in the phone book)there should be a number for noise pollution or anti social behaviour. give them a call because if it's not logged then the problem will never be dealt with.

BTW i've phoned our noise pollution people already today as there's loud drum and base music coming from the next street away, but they don't start until 7.30pm! oh well at least it's logged and i know they will phone back to see if the noise has stopped!

Thanks everyone, nothing worse than this. Why people think everyone in the street wants to listen to their music is beyond me. Wouldnt it be great if we all had nothing better to do than party all night, sleep till dinner, then start again ! I have contacted several people about the noise, but as you all say takes time and lots of complaining!

Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying

Nobody on here advised you to ring the police.....dont you think they have better ( and more urgent things to do)
You are been told by people to ring THE COUNCIL it is their problem not the police.
